ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL REPORT
Welcome to week 7 of term 2. There have been many exciting things happening around the school over the past few weeks.
Online safety
We continue to have a focus on the safe use of technology and safe online behaviours.
Whilst technology has had many positive effects on how we live our lives, there are risks to spending more time online that students, parents and carers need to be aware of.
We encourage families and carers to continue to speak openly with students about safe behaviours whilst online.
If students are involved in an online incident, we encourage students to:
- 'Be Brave' and ask others involved to stop.
- Resist the urge to respond. Take a break.
- Seek help from a trusted adult.
- Screenshot, report and block on the platform (the eSafety Guide has lots of links for reporting)
- If the content is still up after 48 hours from reporting, report to the eSafety Commissioner.
Project Rockit
Today the Upper Junior students participated in a Project Rockit incursion.
The workshop aims to build a shared understanding of what bullying is and how it impacts those targeted. Through the program the students are empowered with strategies to promote a culture of taking action, supporting each other and gaining a shared understanding of what bullying is. They identified various (cyber)bullying situations and learnt how to support their peers who are routinely discriminated against.
Thank you to the Upper Junior teachers for organising the valuable incursion.
Frankston Technical School workshop
Last week we were invited to attend a school’s workshop about the new Frankston Technical school. We listened to speakers outlining the vision for FTS including priority areas and curriculum design. Cyrus Martin and Sophie Vallantine did a wonderful job representing the school and outlining the type of learning experience that would appeal to them as learners and community members. Well done Cyrus and Sophie.
Reconciliation Week.
On Monday members of the Koorie club were invited to attend group activities with KESO visitors for Reconciliation Week. KESOs are a team of professionals who understand Aboriginal culture and history of the community. They provide our team of staff and students advice and support in building our school capacity. As a school we value their ongoing support and visiting our school community. Next week the students will attend KELIS day.
Lastly I would like to give a very big shout out to the Naranga Aerobics team.
Amelie, Nevaeh, Sophie and Molly are competing in the Victorian State finals this weekend at Rowville Secondary college.
On behalf of the Naranga community we wish them the very best of luck.
