Mathematics:
Kindergarten have enjoyed participating in Maths Rotations this term. The students are divided into three groups to complete an activity either with the teacher, Education Assistant, or independently.
These hands-on sessions allow for differentiation of students so that Whole Number concepts, such as number recognition, counting with one-to-one correspondence and subitising, can be taught at different ability levels that better target the needs of individual students. The students really enjoy these hands-on activities!!
When asked what they like most about Maths Rotations, they said:
"I like the teddy bear game because you get to match the numbers" - Maverick
"Writing numbers correctly" - Harriet
"I love making numbers with the playdough" - Ethan H
"I love doing it by myself" - Wyatt
"Writing numbers up to 100 - we already know them" - Claudia
Reading Groups:
This term, Kindergarten began their home reader journey as well as continue to tahome a new list of sight words each week. During our Literacy block, students participate in reading groups, working with the teacher, the Education Assistant, or independently to complete their assigned tasks.
These small group sessions allow for targeted instruction, helping to develop key early reading skills such as letter recognition, phonemic awareness, sound blending and vocabulary building, all tailored to the students' individual learning levels.
The children love using Reading Eggs on the iPads as well as reading hardcover books to each other. They also take part in a variety of fun literacy activities, such as cutting and pasting words to create proper sentences!
