Miss Mel's Message

Principal - St Brigid's Primary School

Term 1, Week 6

We are only a few short weeks away from the school holidays and have many things to celebrate. Thank you for your ongoing support, trust and engagement, working together to create the best learning environment and community for our students.

This Indeed is a Cause for Celebration - Building Handover!

Staff and students were handed the keys to the kingdom on Thursday afternoon and sang, danced, and chanted joyously around their new rooms. The videos taken of their first entry into the space highlight the enthusiasm that has been building throughout the weeks of patiently waiting. They have now begun the move into the new learning spaces and we can’t wait to share these with you over the coming days and weeks. The outdoor space is still under construction, however the new asphalt will be poured next week. We await the ramp handrail and are hoping this occurs in the next few weeks and we will then have access to all of the outdoor areas.

Leading Learning

Our leadership team attended a professional development day for the Northern Region of MACS focusing on the MACS Vision for Instruction 2030, which focuses on systemic evidence-based learning and teaching processes and practices. Research into the science of learning was presented and discussed, as well as outlining 7 key principles of how students learn and how to use these understandings to enhance the learning of all students.

An aspect of the day highlighted a phonics approach in foundational levels, which was affirming for us with the direction we have taken in our P-2 area with our synthetic phonics approach through InitiaLit. As a school, we are focussing on zero variability from class to class through consistent and structured literacy teaching. We have a focus on sustaining growth across each year for all students and connections between intervention and classroom practice.

In line with MACS 2030, and their vision for instruction, we as a school are partnered with Teach Well, Ochre and MACS in the implementation of Teaching for Impact in Mathematics. This will see our school excelling in student outcomes, explicit instruction, increased attention rates and higher engagement levels.

Specialist Changes

The first week of the change to specialist structure has been highly successful, with many students reporting positive thoughts and feelings. A reminder for those who might have missed it, sports uniforms can be worn Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays now.

Lunch Clubs Are A Hit

We have many lunch clubs happening on various break times at St Brigid’s including Art, Digi Tech, Mini Vinnies, Nudel Kart, Soccer, Gardening and Lulu Ambassadors. We are looking for volunteers to support other lunchtime club options. We would love to implement chess, knitting, and any other activities you might be interested in supporting over the coming weeks. Please email me if you are interested.

In addition, we are always looking for parent helpers in the classroom. Please contact your child’s teacher to advise of your availability.

More Updates

Please check out our Learning and Events page for updates on Sport, Digi Tech, our Grade 6 meet with Simon from Windarring, Reconciliation,  and our learning with The Resilience Project.

Our school tours are coming up, please share with 2025 Prep families!

Reminders

Mornings

Please note that staff are not on duty until 8:30am, which means students dropped off early are not supervised. When dropping students off at school, please do not leave your car when using the front parking, parallel parking is available for those who wish to walk their children inside.

Learning spaces open at 8.30am, and meditation begins at 8.50am. In order to minimise disruption to morning routines, students who are not in their learning space by 8.50am will be required to wait and reflect in the office foyer until prayer and mediation have been completed, which is approximately 9.05am. We thank you for your support in helping us create a calm, consistent morning routine, setting all students up for success.

Hats

All students need to wear school hats when engaging in activities outside.  Please ensure your child has their hat in their bag each day, or they may leave it in their tubs at school. Any child without a hat will need to remain in the shaded areas.
