Reconciliation Family Evening

On Tuesday night families came together to share in the learning and preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It was lovely to see families connecting, reflecting and sharing.

Media Team Update

The Grade 6 Media Team have released their first episode of their new podcast, The St Brigid’s Primary School Gisborne Podcast. If you want to be up-to-date on all the latest news at St B, the community and... water bottles? (you will need to listen to the podcast for that to make sense) subscribe below on Apple Podcasts or Spotify (and if you could leave a 5 star review, I’m sure it will boost some egos)

The St. B’s Media team is made up of Grade 6 students: Leila, Grace, Lucius, Audrey and GemmaLinks to subscribe are below: (PS: Our Podcast artwork was made using the techniques we learnt about AI image generation!)

Daniel's Digi Tech Update

They say Egypt wasn’t built in a day (or something close to that), and in this case, we were proven correct. The senior and middle years students have been using our 3D printer to print off some of their creations, however, it doesn’t always go off without a hitch. Here is a print we did recently of Jonah’s Egypt model and Grace’s keyring - yes, that green fairy floss was not part of the plan, but, in typical St B's student fashion, their response was: “Oh well, let’s make some changes and try again”.

I’ve tasked the Middle students to make something personal they can use, and we have got keyrings, necklaces, toys and more. And for the Seniors they have to work on something much harder, a product that has some form of interactivity or movement.

Here you can see a pencil holder (with a working drawer) and an iPad stand (with working hinge). The best part about all these pictures is I didn’t even need to say ‘Smile’ - they were so proud of what they made you saw it on their faces instantly.

Social Justice Update

Our Grade 6 students are hard at work on a range of passion projects and our Social Justice team have begun working on a project that will involve our friends at Windarring to run some programs for their clients. Last week we had a video chat with the director Simon to present some of their ideas (3D printing, Robots, Movie Making, Sport and more). A big thanks to Simon for speaking with our students and to our great team today of Elsie (Chief executive officer... and the organised one), Rado (Director of Ideas... and talking), Henry (Technical Director when our live chat had issues), and Shaun (Director of just coming back from a trip to India and being thrown in the deep end).

The Resilience Project

This week’s presentation from The Resilience Project focuses on Gratitude.

Gratitude is paying attention to the things that we have right now, and not worrying about what we don’t have. We practice this by noticing the positives that exist around us.

Research shows that practicing gratitude rewires our brains to overcome the negativity bias (which can lead to anxiety and depression) and see the world for what we are thankful for. It is also shown to broaden thinking, and increase physical health through improved sleep and attitude to exercise.

There are many ways in which you can practice gratitude, including starting a gratitude journal. You can simply use a notebook to list three things that went well for you each day or use a more comprehensive Wellbeing Journal, like those created by The Resilience Project.
