Child Safe & Wellbeing

Safety, Respect and Learning

11 Child Safe Standards

The Child Safe Standards are a shared, everyday commitment to protecting children’s safety and wellbeing. They guide how adults behave, make decisions, listen to children, manage risk, and respond to concerns. They are preventative, inclusive, and ongoing - embedded in our school culture and practice, not just expressed through our policy.

Please see below for a summary of the Standards.

Parenting through a PERMA lens

PERMA reminds us that children thrive when their wellbeing is intentionally nurtured (Seligman, 2012). Positive emotions grow when children feel safe, noticed, and celebrated for effort, not just outcomes. Engagement is built by giving children time to be absorbed in play, learning, and interests that matter to them. Relationships strengthen through connection, listening, and predictable routines. Meaning develops when children understand they belong to something bigger than themselves - family, school, faith, or community. Accomplishment comes from setting realistic expectations, persisting through challenge, and recognising growth over time.

Practical ways parents can support wellbeing at home

  • Notice and name positives each day — effort, kindness, persistence, not just success.
  • Create space for focus and play without interruption, allowing children to become absorbed in what they enjoy.
  • Prioritise connection through regular check-ins, shared meals, and predictable routines.
  • Listen without rushing to fix — sometimes children need to be heard more than helped.
  • Model calm responses when things go wrong; children learn emotional regulation by watching adults.
  • Give children responsibility in age-appropriate ways so they experience contribution and purpose.
  • Talk about values — fairness, service, faith, care for others — and link daily actions to these.
  • Set achievable goals together and celebrate progress, not perfection.
  • Encourage perseverance by normalising mistakes as part of learning.
  • Maintain consistency and boundaries, which helps children feel safe and secure.

Small, consistent actions at home make a powerful difference for every child.

Coffee & Connect

It was so lovely gathering with parents at this week's coffee & connect session.

Making connections with each other and building our sense of belonging to this community is such a gift!
