Visual Arts Foundation - Grade 4

Foundation

Our Foundation students have been exploring their names through creative art activities. We created bright and colourful name artworks using the sticker peel, press and rub method to carefully transfer stickers onto paper to spell out their names. We also used playdough and clay to form our names by rolling the clay into long lines, bending, cutting and joining pieces to make each letter. To make our work even more exciting, we used clay tools and stamps to add interesting textures and patterns to our name creations.

Over the next few weeks, we will be discovering self-portraits by drawing, painting and clay modelling images of ourselves. We are excited to explore our unique features and celebrate what makes each of us special through art.

Grade 1 and 2

Grade 1 and 2 students have chosen a learning partner to support them during Art, and they sit together each lesson to share ideas and help one another. We have been experimenting with playdough and clay to create our names and model things that are special to us. Using clay tools, rollers and stamps, students have added interesting patterns and textured effects to their artworks.

We are currently learning about bowls from around the world and drawing pictures inspired by their beautiful designs. We have explored bowls from Australia, including Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander cultures, as well as from India, China, Africa and the Philippines. Over the next few weeks, students will design and create their own unique clay bowl.

Grade 3 and 4

Grade 3 and 4 students have chosen a learning partner to support them during Art, sitting together each lesson to share ideas and collaborate. Students have been learning about shadow font writing, linking their learning to Science by exploring how shadows are created. We discussed how a light source shines onto a solid object, which blocks the light and creates a shadow on the opposite side.

Students are currently designing a personalised name plaque to display on their tables during learning time. They are carefully using shadow writing to show their name and grade, making sure their shadows match the direction of the chosen light source.

Visual Arts Awards

Congratulations to the following student who have received Visual Arts awards this term!

Alara 4C - Learning - Confidently identifying the light source, determining shadow direction, and clearly explaining her thinking to help her classmates better understand font shadow writing.

Alexa FC - Respect - Being kind and helpful by assisting friends to open their clay tubs when they needed help.

Art Smocks

Thank you to the families and students that have promptly brought in art smocks. We are still awaiting on a few more to come in. Art smocks stay at school in a class tub for the year. At the end of every year students take home their art folder,  art work and art smock so they can be washed ready for a fresh start next year.
