Principal's News

Dear Families & Friends,

Thankyou all for another great two weeks at Trinity. As we come to the end of week 6, a great deal of activity and learning has already taken place. As I outlined at the beginning of the term, due to our building works, there would be some changes, inconveniences and adjustments we would need to make. So far our children and their teachers have been amazing at adjusting as needed and it is business as usual in our classrooms and playground. Thankyou also to our parents, as no doubt there have also been some changes which have impacted you. A very big thankyou to Fr Trung who has enabled us to use the Church for our assemblies as this would have been one of the bigggest challenges we would have had to face. Whilst it may not seem like a great deal is happening inside the buildings our builders have been busy demolishing much of the internals of the old Year 3/4 classrooms and staffroom facilities. I will keep you updated as we progress.

Condolences

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mathias Family. Bernadette's father, Thomas and Sophie’s grandfather, passed away peacefully this week, he was at home with his family. Please keep them in your prayers at this very sad time.

First Aid for all staff

As part of our ongoing comitment to child safety at Trinity, all staff have now completed their First Aid, Anaphylaxis, Emergency and CPR Training, as well as their, Managing Diabetes training. These opportunities are an important part of our staff professional learning responsibilities and ensure that we have all the lastest information and skills to deal with incidents and issues arising requiring first aid intervention.  Later on in the year our Senior students will also participate in first aid lessons as part of their classroom learning programs.

NAPLAN Update:

As you may be aware, Year 3, 5, 7 & 9 students across the country will soon sit their NAPLAN tests.  Our Year 3 & 5 children have been busy preparing for these tests with their teachers and will be well prepared for next week. I am aware that these results can be used to compare schools across the state but it is always important to remember that these results are just a very small snapshot of student achievement in a certain number of curriculum areas. We also believe, at Trinity, that every student should have the opportunity to sit these tests and only when parents request are any children exempted from NAPLAN.

Year 3-6 Intensive Swimming Program

Our first intesnsive swimming program will conclude tomorrow and it has been a great success. For many of our children these lessons may be their only exposure to swimming lessons and are therefore a critical part of their learning at school. Sadly, as we hear each year, too many people drown in pools or at the beach and it is hoped that the skills our children learn through their swimming lessons at primary school might enable them to remain safe in and around water. A really big thankyou to all those parents who support this program by volunteering to walk with our children and supervise them at the pool. Without this extra support we genuinly would not be able to run the program.

Saver Plus Back to School Campaign

There’s encouraging news for Victorian families, as we head into a new school year. The Victorian Government has recently announced free public transport for all children and young people under 18, helping to ease everyday travel costs and making getting to school more affordable than ever.

As families prepare for the year ahead, many are also facing the rising costs of uniforms, books, digital devices, and other learning essentials. This can place added pressure on households, and schools are often a trusted first point of connection in helping families feel supported, prepared, and ready for learning.Saver Plus is a well-established program funded by the Department of Social Services that helps eligible families build savings specifically for education expenses.

Families can save up to $500, which is matched dollar for dollar, giving them up to $1,000 to spend on approved school-related costs such as uniforms, books, laptops, excursions, and other learning essentials. Alongside the financial benefit, families also gain practical saving skills that continue to support them well beyond the school year.

With reduced transport costs and support through Saver Plus, families are better positioned to plan ahead and ensure students have what they need to engage confidently at school. The Saver Plus program aligns strongly with school priorities around wellbeing, inclusion, and reducing financial barriers to participation.
