Reflection

Reflection

This Tuesday marks the celebration of the Transfiguration of the Lord, as well as the commemoration of the tragic event when the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, in 1945.

The Transfiguration commemorates the divine life and splendor of God, radiating from Jesus like a radiant beacon. Hiroshima is a sombre day marked by the tragic loss of seventy thousand lives due to the war and the devastating white flash of the bomb.

By following the Father's mountain message revealed through the cloud and paying attention to Jesus, we will select the path of life and peace instead of violence and death.

Prayer

God of glory,

it is good for us to be here.

Reveal your Son to us now

in the message of the prophets

and the witnesses of the apostles.

Help us listen to his voice

and welcome him in faith.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

St Mary of the Cross Liturgy held today

Today the large majority of schools in our diocese including us remembered and celebrated the life of Australia's very own saint, St Mary of the Cross. St Mary of the Cross feast day is today, the 8th August. Born in Melbourne in 1842, Mary grew up in Penola, a small town in South Australia. In 1866, Mary began a religious order named the Sisters of St Joseph. She and her sisters opened schools in isolated places and served the poor in many ways. Their unselfish work won the respect of many people.

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary-Thursday 15th August

On the 15th of August, a significant event is commemorated in the church as it is the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, the mother of Jesus. The Assumption signifies the conclusion of Mary's life on earth as she is assumed into heaven, both body and soul. Since this day is a sacred day of observance for all Catholics globally to attend Mass, all students and staff members within the St. Patrick's Learning Community will be celebrating Mass at 11.30am at St. Patrick's Church on this occasion. Your presence would be greatly appreciated if you could join us.

Congratulations Year 6

This is also noted in Mr. Hyatt's section of this newsletter but again congratulations are in order for all the Year 6 students for their remarkable results in the Year 6 Religious Education Assessment this year. Our Year 6 class achieved an average score of 35 out of 40, exceeding the diocesan average of 27.1. Once again, well done Year 6, each one of you should be proud of your achievements.
