In Term 4, Chinese students had the opportunity to learn about the Mooncake Festival. To deepen their understanding of the festival, students watched an insightful video that looked at the cultural significance and history of the Mooncake Festival, providing a fascinating glimpse into the traditions, myths, and customs associated with this ancient celebration. A highlight of the celebration was the mooncake tasting session. Students sampled an array of mooncakes, each with a unique flavour and texture.

Some of our French students took the opportunity to engage with the wider French community by visiting the Marché de Noël (French Christmas Market) organised by the Alliance Française at the start of December in the city. They were able to practice their French, do some shopping and taste traditional French food.

The summer holidays are a great time for students to engage with Languages outside the classroom setting. For example, listening to music in French or Chinese, or watching a TV show in the original language with subtitles. With their families or friends, they could visit a French or Chinese restaurant – perhaps being brave enough to order using their language skills! Chinese students could visit some of the many Asian markets and French students should keep an eye out for the Bûche de Noël (Christmas Yule Log) or Galette des Rois (King Cake) in French bakeries. Or why not have a go at making one at home?
