From the Principal Team

To students and families,
As we move into the middle of the term, there continues to be plenty happening across the College, with students involved in a wide range of learning opportunities, sporting events and preparation for upcoming assessments.
A highlight of the past week was our KELIS (Koories Emerging Leaders in School) Day at the Richmond Football Club. Students had a fantastic experience engaging in leadership activities, teamwork challenges and hearing from guest presenters in a professional sporting environment. Opportunities like these help students build confidence, develop communication skills and strengthen their connection with one another and the wider community.
Students across all year levels should also now be turning their attention towards upcoming End of Unit Assessments. These assessments are an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their understanding and prepare for the expectations of senior schooling. We encourage students to be organised, stay up to date with coursework and seek support from their teachers if needed.
For our Year 10 and 11 students, the exam period is now only two weeks away. This is the time to begin serious preparation. Developing revision notes, reviewing past learning tasks, completing practice questions and establishing regular study routines now will make a significant difference when exams arrive. Consistent preparation over time is always more effective than last minute cramming.
Over the next two weeks students will also complete the Attitudes to School Survey. This survey provides valuable feedback about students’ experiences at school, including their sense of connectedness, learning, confidence and wellbeing. Student voice plays an important role in helping us continue to improve our programs, supports and learning environment.
With colder weather approaching, now is also a good time for families to check student uniforms. A reminder that students are expected to be in full school uniform each day. Hoodies are not part of the school uniform and should not be worn at school. We appreciate the support of families in maintaining consistent standards and helping students arrive prepared for the day ahead.
Finally, we wish our Aerobics teams the very best of luck as they head to the State Finals this weekend. Reaching this level is a tremendous achievement and reflects the enormous amount of effort, commitment and teamwork shown by our students and coaches throughout the year. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and look forward to hearing about their performances.

House Cross Country
On Friday 15th May we ran the House Cross Country competitions over the schools 2.5km course. The course is a little shorter than the traditional 3km distance, but it has two hill sections which makes it a challenging course.
Year 7 Cross Country
The Year 7 students ran the course in two waves with the girls heading off first, and the boys chasing two minutes later. To incentivise our runners, the top 12 finishers in both the boys’ and girls’ races were awarded a chocolate Freddo. There was also a $10 canteen voucher as a random prize for any runner who finished the course in under 20 minutes. The winners of the $10 vouchers were Will Nailon and Mya Tatterson.

Excursions
Mornington Primary School House Athletics Helpers
On Friday the 15th of May, MSC’s Year 10 Sports Leadership class proudly planned and delivered an engaging junior athletics program for students from Mornington Primary School.
The program catered for students ranging from the Pre-Prep STAR program through to Grade 3 and featured a variety of exciting activities including mini Olympics, novelty events, and a soccer round robin competition.
Our students demonstrated outstanding leadership, enthusiasm, and maturity throughout the day. They worked brilliantly with the younger students, creating a positive, inclusive, and energetic environment where everyone felt encouraged to participate and have fun.
Staff and parents from Mornington Primary School were incredibly impressed with the professionalism and care shown by our students, and the primary students had an absolute ball taking part in the activities.
We are extremely proud of all students involved for the way they represented the college and stepped up as leaders within the community. Their effort, teamwork, and ability to connect with younger students made the day a tremendous success.
Congratulations to all students involved on a fantastic achievement and for being such positive ambassadors for our school community.

Victorian Trades Hall Council
As part of their Year 12 Work Related Skills course requirements, students recently attended an excursion to the Victorian Trades Hall Council. The visit provided students with valuable insight into workplace rights and responsibilities, as well as the historical development of unions and their role in improving working conditions in Australia.
Students participated in a guided tour of the heritage-listed building, where they learned about the significant contribution of women to workplace reform and the fight for fair and safe working conditions. The excursion also included an informative session presented by the Young Workers Centre, which focused on young people’s rights at work, including pay, safety, discrimination, and where to seek support in the workplace.
The experience gave students a deeper understanding of workplace history, employee rights, and the importance of advocacy and representation in modern workplaces.

Year 11 Outdoor Environmental Studies: Scaling New Heights
Our Year 11 OES students recently took to the walls at an indoor rock climbing centre, using the controlled environment to unpack some heavy-hitting curriculum concepts.
While the day was packed with high energy and plenty of fun, the core focus was analysing perceived risks, understanding how technical assistance and proper equipment mitigate danger, and identifying ways to remove barriers to participation.
It's safe to say our students brought a serious lack of fear to the session! Many jumped straight onto the most challenging routes, trusting their physical abilities implicitly—with some students scaling impressive heights, dangling with no leg holds, and relying purely on upper-body strength. More importantly, they showed incredible maturity in trusting their belay partners completely.
We definitely have some content to rehash and unpack in the classroom regarding real vs. perceived risk after that display of confidence, but one thing is certain: if this session was any indication, these students are absolutely going to crush the natural rock faces on our upcoming Grampians camp!

Senior Badminton Southern Peninsula Division (SPD) Championships
The Senior Boys and Girls SPD Badminton Championships were held in the school stadium on Tuesday 19th May. We had 5 teams competing in the boy’s competition and 7 teams competing in the girls. The girl’s competition was split between two pools with the winning team from each pool playing in the final. The boy’s competition was a 5 team round robin format.
Our Boys A team did exceptionally well, winning three of their matches but were unfortunately defeated 4 -2 by the competition winners Dromana SC. This placed our Boys A team second in the competition.

Senior Boys Basketball - Division Competition
The decision to enter a Year 11/12 Boys Basketball team came down to the final day, with seven Year 12 students committing to represent Mornington Secondary College.
Unfortunately, one player was side-lined through injury, leaving the team with six players for the entire tournament. The bus arrived just in time for the opening tip-off, and we immediately faced tough competition, which continued throughout the day.
Our first match against Dromana proved challenging, with their team hitting an impressive number of three-point shots. The boys responded strongly in the next game, defeating Rosebud by four points before taking on a very tall Westernport side featuring two players standing at 6ft 7in. MSC stayed competitive throughout the first half before fatigue began to take its toll.
The match against Mt Eliza was one of the highlights of the day, with the lead changing several times before MSC narrowly went down by a single point in the final minute. In the final game against Somerville, the boys led for much of the contest before cramps and exhaustion set in after a demanding day of limited rotations.
With each game lasting 24 minutes and very few breaks between matches, the players showed outstanding determination, resilience, and teamwork. Most importantly, they represented Mornington Secondary College with excellent sportsmanship and a positive attitude throughout the tournament.

Senior Boys Table Tennis- Division Competition
On Tuesday May 19th, a group of six Year 11 boys travelled to Mount Eliza Secondary College to compete in the Division Table Tennis Round Robin competition. The day was filled with fast-paced matches, impressive rallies, and excellent sportsmanship as students represented the school with pride and determination.
Throughout the competition, the boys demonstrated great teamwork, resilience, and composure under pressure. Each player contributed strongly across the day, supporting one another between matches and maintaining a positive attitude.
Dromana took the honours on the day, with our boys finishing second. Well done to:

This week at the Division Inter-School Soccer Competition, our Year 11 and 12 team delivered a strong overall performance, finishing the day with 1 win, 1 draw, and 1 loss. In their opening match, the team showed incredible resilience and determination, fighting back from a 2–0 deficit to secure a hard-earned 2–2 draw. Throughout the day, the boys displayed not only outstanding individual talent, but also the unbreakable teamwork and spirit that represents our school so proudly. Well done boys!
