STAGE 2 NEWS
It’s hard to believe we are already in Week 4 of Term 2! What a busy start to the term we have had from Cross Country to ANZAC Day celebrations to the Commonwealth Games and not to mention all the hard work being done in our classrooms.
We would like to begin this week by sharing photos from our ‘Project Presentation’ at the end of last term. The children had to complete an independent project on an animal of choice. They shared their work with the other children in Stage 2 in a Gallery Walk, explaining their projects to others and providing verbal feedback. The teachers (and principal) were very impressed by the attention to detail and depth of knowledge the students shared. What a huge effort Stage 2!
This week the children have completed a multi-step artwork developing many skills such as:
- mixing primary colours to create secondary colours
- using texture in their paintings
- sketching an animal adding realistic clothes and human-like features
- using watercolours and black artline markers to colour their animal
- and last, but not least, sticking their creature onto the background they created considering composition
The level of resilience, patience and persistence shown during this activity was outstanding. The children should be very proud of their masterpieces.
The students also began examining a variety of well-known collage artworks such as ‘The Snail’ by Henri Matisse. They used their first lesson to complete a collage artwork using coloured paper and magazine cutouts, trying to use balance and colour effectively.
In Mathematics this term, we have studied three-dimensional objects. Students have been completing a variety of different activities from creating 3D objects and cutting out 3D nets to form shapes. They thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on activities.
In Geography this term, we are learning about places and spaces that we utilise in our communities and how we identify them. Students recently had to work in groups to sort a variety of different places into leisure, commercial, social, cultural and agricultural. They also have a clear understanding of what urban, rural and remote towns or cities might look like.
Lastly, we would like to inform parents that we will run off the Spelling Bee in our Stage 2 rooms on Friday 22nd May. Students who do not wish to be involved will be the audience for our participants. There will be eight students who progress into the finals which will be held on Tuesday 2nd June at 9:15 a.m. These students and their parents will be notified. The words are available on our google classroom, if students wish to prepare for this activity.
