Student Achievements

Inspiring Leadership and Cultural Pride at the Multicultural Youth Leadership Conference On Wednesday, a group of 25 Multicultural Leaders and students from Greater Shepparton Secondary College (GSSC) travelled to Melbourne to attend the Multicultural Youth Leadership Conference (MYLC), accompanied by staff members Mark Heathcote, Muzhgan Qazikhil, and Sifa MIREYE-KARAKOC. Departing bright and early at 6:00 a.m., the students proudly represented GSSC throughout the day, demonstrating our school values of Aspiration, Integrity, Respect, and Responsibility. From the moment they arrived, our students stood out for their maturity, self-discipline, and engagement, choosing to stay focused and respectful during sessions and returning promptly from breaks. Throughout the conference, students took part in inspiring workshops and discussions on leadership, resilience, inclusivity, and cultural identity. They heard from political and community leaders, as well as motivational speakers who shared powerful stories about overcoming challenges such as racism and discrimination.

Students reflected on their experience with great enthusiasm:

• Fatima Chaman Ali said, “Being there among everyone was truly amazing and inspiring. The MYLC programme taught us to push through even if we might not fit in or don’t share the same thoughts. We are all unique and different in our own ways, and there should be no reason to change that. I truly loved the MYLC programme and would love to go again.”

• Alicia Kazayi shared, “The conference expanded my idea of leadership, especially around inclusivity and diversity. Standing up for oneself and having a voice is important, and leadership is about bringing positive change to the community.”

• Shaima Khaksar reflected, “It was really fun and inspiring. I met lots of new people from different cultures and learned how everyone can be a good leader in their own way. It made me feel more confident and prouder of my culture.”

• Tabassum Ali added, “The event motivated me to stand up against discrimination and become a stronger, more confident leader.”

• Leila Lammon observed, “Leadership isn’t standing in front of everyone but standing beside them no matter the differences within ourselves. It was an amazing conference to be a part of.” We are incredibly proud of how our students represented GSSC and embraced the opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with other young leaders from across Victoria.

Cultural & Languages Expo for Victorian School of Languages

On Saturday, we hosted the Cultural & Languages Expo for Victorian School of Languages (VSL), a fun-filled celebration of diversity and learning.

Students, families, and the community enjoyed live entertainment, activities, and workshops, exploring the languages VSL offer, and an opportunity for families to discover how to enrol their child for next year.

The day was made even more special as we celebrated our 2025 students graduating from the Victorian School of Languages . We are so proud of their dedication, hard work, and achievement. Congratulations to all graduates on this wonderful milestone!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating culture, learning, and the incredible accomplishments of our students.
