P-2 and 3-6 Athletics Days

Well done to all our awesome kids for participating in their respective Aths day. It was fantastic to see so many kids having a go at some unfamiliar sports/activities. I was thrilled to see such good attitudes from our students on both days. Thanks again to any parents who put their hand up to volunteer on the day ⭐

Cross Country

After our School Cross Country, our top runners were selected to go to the Division Cross Country at the Bendigo Racecourse. It's always a great day and we had some super results this year with a number of kids finishing in the top 20. We had one student, Imogen Allan, who has qualified for the next stage- Region Aths in St Arnaud. Good luck Immy 😁

Cluster Athletics

Students were selected for the Cluster Athletics from our School Athletics. They competed against kids from Maiden Gully, Big Hill and Huntly Primary Schools. We wish them all the best for what is another fun and tiring day!

PE lessons

... have been packed in preparation for all the athletics and cross country training. We now move onto soccer, with the selected grade 5/6 team competing at the Epsom Huntly Rec Reserve on June 14. We also had a hockey coach come in as part of School Sports Victoria for a week of specialised hockey sessions. Whilst there was a few whacks to the shins and ankles, it was great to see kids trying another unfamiliar sport.

Music

Grade 3-6 students have spent the first half of the term working on skills and learning songs on their first of two selected instruments (bass, guitar, ukulele, keyboards or drums). Students are using our custom designed website and homegrown videos to direct their own learning. They are now switching to their second instrument where they begin the process again.

Grade 1-2 students are learning how to anticipate the beat, so that they can change notes/chords at the correct time. They have been playing various popular songs on keyboards, xylophones and boomwhackers. Students have also been consolidating their understanding of the 12 notes in music and continuing to develop their skills on the ukulele.

Grade Prep students have learned what a "rest" is in music and why it is important to have space and gaps in songs. They are also learning resilience and teamwork skills through a variety of drama games so that they can work in small ensembles in the future.

Visual Arts

A busy month in Visual Arts saw our student continue to dive into understanding Indigenous perspectives in artworks. All year levels have been hard at work creating unique examples of art, with an emphasis on story telling, use of symbols and a wide range of colour pallets. Take a look at some of the creations so far.

A huge congratulations to Scarlett Eames who for the very first time has had her artwork displayed in one of our Bendigo Art galleries. This work was created as part of her unit of work in class. Scarlett's art has been featured in the Young Mob Excelling exhibition at Djaa Djuwima (First Nations Art Gallery in the Bendigo Visitors Centre). What an amazing achievement.

For our senior students who are diving into some extra curricular art, don't forget your incognito exhibition submissions are due in three weeks time. :)
