Congratulations, Aditi (5I/G), for being awarded the Aussie of the Month for April. Aditi is a respected and active member of our school community. Seeing Aditi acknowledged during our Aussie of the Month Assembly on Monday was lovely.
Today, the Year 3-6 students participated in the House Cross Country event at Domeney Reserve. Witnessing the students cheering and displaying excitement throughout the event was a joy. Their sportspersonship, camaraderie, and support for one another during the run were truly impressive.
Congratulations to all the students for their efforts, and best wishes to those advancing to the District competition in a few weeks. Thanks to Mrs Carbone for her dedication to preparing the students and organising the event. Additionally, I am grateful to our staff and parent volunteers for their assistance on the day.
Last night, Mrs Bullen and I attended Family Life Sessions with about 60 families, led by Glenys from Interrelate. These sessions allowed both children and adults to discuss sensitive topics like human reproduction and puberty in a safe environment, ensuring accurate understanding.
A key lesson was empowering youth to assert themselves using phrases like 'No,' 'That's not okay,' and 'Stop' in uncomfortable situations. I urge parents to practice these phrases with their children early on for their protection.
Given the importance of respectful relationships, it's vital to educate youth about seeking help when needed. Parents should help their children identify at least five trusted adults to turn to, including those outside the family circle.
Our Mother’s/ Special Person Day stall will take place on Monday, May 6th. Please provide your children with some money along with a bag for their purchases (items priced between $3 - $10).
Please remember to reserve your spot for our Mother’s Day/Special Person breakfast on Friday, May 10th. We kindly request bookings for each family member, including children, to ensure adequate catering. The deadline for reservations is Monday, May 6th, to assist with catering arrangements. Dads willing to assist with the breakfast, kindly reach out to Danni at 0412 433 885.
Mrs Bullen and I have observed unsafe driving on Bowmore Avenue, including children being called onto the road and encouraged to walk into traffic. This behavior is irresponsible and hazardous. There are only short-term parking spaces on Bowmore Avenue, leading to congestion as parents circle to pick up their children. Double parking is illegal, and I've requested traffic inspectors to monitor the situation.
Please prioritise safety to prevent potential accidents. Consider parking further away and arriving slightly later to alleviate congestion. Thank you for ensuring a safe environment for our school community.
Students are using smart watches to contact parents during school hours. Parents are asked to prevent device use during the day. If this persists, students may be required to leave devices at home. Contacting parents should follow formal channels through the Office. Parents should not pick up students based on their request. School policy on mobile phones including smart watches is outlined in the attached document.
Have an enjoyable weekend,
Ms Garrity
