What's been happening in Auslan this Semester...

Mrs O'Rourke

What’s happening in AUSLAN?

Did you know that AUSLAN is short for Australian sign language? It is the native language of the Australian Deaf community. About 3.6 million people living in Australia have some level of hearing loss. We have been learning AUSLAN here at North Primary School for a whole term now and we love it! There are so many benefits of learning AUSLAN. Here are just a few..

· Enhances children’s educational and personal development

· Increases memory retention and motion processing

· Stimulates brain development and mental flexibility

· Increases enjoyment in communicating for both hearing and deaf children

This term, students have been learning how to fingerspell the alphabet, numbers, greetings and colours. We have even learnt a few different songs and rhymes in AUSLAN!

Here are some photos of students signing each letter of the alphabet. Can you have a go at signing your name?
