Curriculum Day

On Tuesday 70 of our staff made their way to a conference centre in Whittlesea where we undertook a full day of professional learning. Our main presenter was Chris Daicos, who also facilitates a very worthwhile session for all new parents enrolling Preps at Plenty Parklands each year. Chris spoke in depth about the importance of looking after the wellbeing of students, parents and staff in our school community. Follow up sessions focussing on the new Victorian Teaching and Learning Model and Positive Classroom Management Strategies will equip our teachers with the most modern techniques used in education. Thank you to our parents and guardians who made the appropriate arrangements for our students on the day.

Skinner Dance Party

We had unbelievable scenes last Friday for the culmination of the David Skinner Dance Program. I was blown away by the number of adults who attended on the day to celebrate this very popular six-week program undertaken by the PPPS students across our school. David has been a long-time fixture of Plenty Parklands PS for over twenty years, and each time he visits his program is a raging success.

Numeracy Dice Challenge

Our Numeracy Coordinator Ms. Chloe Soloman has been engaging students in our whole school dice challenge, which pitch students against their peers to find the PPPS Masters of Addition and Multiplication. After initial rounds were held in classrooms, the semi finals and finals are well under way in our staffroom both today and next Monday. Year level champions will receive their trophy at our end of term assembly.

Successful Taster Sessions

Ms. Megan Long and her Prep team have successfully completed all five Taster Sessions for the 2027 Prep students. This highly important activity assists these young children transitioning into our school environment. A special thank you to our specialist teachers who ran fun and engaging sessions for the students, developing their confidence and a positive attitude to school.

Specialist Changes for Next Semester

As we move into Semester Two, our leadership team are busy planning the specialist timetable for Terms 3 and 4. Acting on student feedback, we are planning on introducing a specialist elective program for our Year 6 students as another way to prepare them for secondary school. Under this model, our senior students will choose their specialist subjects from a larger than usual list, which will also allow teachers to have smaller group sizes for their sessions. We hope this new initiative is another example of the way we value student voice.

Massive End of Term Assembly

Due to last Monday’s public holiday, there is more than a month gap between assemblies to end Term 2. Therefore, we have a massive end of term assembly planned for Friday 26th June.

Items include Specialist Students of the Term Awards, Classroom Value Awards, Numeracy Dice Challenge presentations and our newly created Teacher Value Awards. Our choir and dance troop will also be presenting on the day. We look forward to having as many parents in attendance and possible.
