Science in Kindergarten
Kindergarten students have been having a fantastic time in Science as they explore different materials and learn about their properties. Through hands-on investigations, students have been discovering how materials can be used for different purposes and what makes some materials stronger than others.
As part of our learning, we read the classic story The Three Little Pigs. The story sparked lots of discussion about the houses built by the pigs and why some houses were stronger than others. Students shared their ideas and predictions about which materials would make the strongest house.
Working independently, students designed and constructed their own houses using straws, paddle pop sticks and cards. They carefully planned their creations and worked hard to build houses that they thought would be strong enough to withstand the wolf’s huffing and puffing.
To test their designs, we used a fan to create “wolf wind” and investigate the strength of each house. Students were excited to observe what happened and compare the results of their experiments. There was lots of laughter and learning as we discovered which materials made the strongest houses. Kindergarten students enjoyed being scientists, making predictions, testing their ideas and sharing their findings with their classmates.
