MUSIC - CURRICULUM OPTIONS

“Music education does not just make children more musical; it unleashes their creative powers.....We learn music because it is good. We learn music because it is unique. We learn music because it stimulates creativity at a very high level” - Richard Gill

Developments in Neuroscience have allowed us to understand that the study of Music has wide ranging advantages for a developing brain. This is powerful knowledge, but it only adds to the reasons why it is important to study Music. As a form of self-expression and high-level creativity as well as a phenomenon that surrounds us every day, developing an understanding of Music helps a student to work in the abstract, to listen and to understand the world around them.

Year 9 Certificate II in Music

This course will deliver the Australian Quality Framework Nationally recognised Certificate II in Music. Delivery of this Qualification will be over 2 years and so if students remain in this class until the end of year 10, they will finish with a Certificate II Qualification. Students who do not choose to go on with this Qualification in Year 10 will receive a Statement of Results for units completed. The Qualification is designed to give students industry experience and contains both written work and practical tasks in Music. Completion of the Qualification in Year 10 will contribute to the WACE. When choosing this course, it is recommended that students play an instrument and have a basic understanding of music theory.

The College has a very active Music program. Instrumental and vocal tuition at the College can be arranged through the Music Department. There is also a wide range of cocurricular music activities on offer. Further information can be obtained from the Music Office (music@allsaints.wa.edu.au)
