Curriculum Review – Victorian Curriculum 2.0

Teachers are currently undertaking regular professional learning to develop their understanding of the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 in their relevant learning areas. Their professional learning has included webinar series, Learning Area collaboration meetings and planning days to develop engaging curriculum plans, resources and assessments to meet the strands outlined in the Victorian Curriculum documentation. This work will continue to develop for the remainder of the year and into 2025 as we adjust to the new curriculum.

Victorian Catholic Secondary Schools Deputy Principal Association (VCSSDPA) Conference

I was fortunate to attend the annual VCSSDPA conference in Marysville on 5th and 6th September. As a Deputy Principal, these moments provide worthwhile networking interactions to gain context as to what other Catholic Secondary schools are doing in terms of their staff wellbeing and recruitment strategies, professional learning and teaching and learning programs.

We had 2 keynote speakers – Stephanie Bown, culture specialist and Gavin McCormack, a former school Principal who has worked in Nepal building schools for the small communities. I also attended and a workshop run by Dr Aimee Maxwell on Leading and Supporting Teams through Change. I was fortunate to run my own workshop, highlighting our Professional Learning Culture Workshops that we run each fortnight on a Thursday. We are in a great position when it comes to the offerings our staff have on developing their own professional learning capacity at Marist-Sion College.

Have your contact details or family circumstances changed?

If you have had any changes to your contact details or had family circumstances change it is important to contact the college to update your details. This also includes any changes to other family members or friends you have listed as a contact for your child. Ensuring your details are up to date means that we can make contact when needed. Please call or email college reception to update your details.

Staffing and Recruitment

We are well into our recruitment of staff for 2025. We have been very fortunate to have some excellent candidates express their desire to teach at Marist-Sion College next year. In our current climate of teacher shortages, this makes me feel very proud that we have a welcoming and inviting community that teachers want to work in. We continue to advertise for roles as we know what we need for staffing in 2025 and to accommodate leave requests.

Curriculum Planning Day – Monday 7 October

Just a reminder to all families that we have a Curriculum Planning Day calendared for Monday 7 October. This day is a continuation of the previous Curriculum Planning Day that was held on 14 August to prepare for the changes in the Victorian Curriculum for 2025.
