Student Learning Culture and Growth

Over the past weeks, the College has welcomed parents and carers to our College to participate in the Semester 2 Parent Student Teacher Interviews. This opportunity offers significant benefits by fostering the Partnerships between the College and families to provide clear communication among all parties involved in a student’s learning. These meetings provide an opportunity for teachers to share insights on academic progress and areas needing improvement, while parents can also develop an understanding of the learning that has been occurring for their child.

For students, these interviews serve as a platform to discuss their own goals across each of their subjects and receive constructive feedback directly from their teachers. This collaborative approach ensures that everyone is aligned on the student’s strengths and challenges, helping to create a tailored support plan that enhances learning outcomes and builds a strong, supportive educational environment.

The College also encourages all parents and carers to engage within these College Community events as it continues to develop strong and cohesive partnerships with the students’ teachers which is paramount within the learning partnership.

Unit 4 Trial Exams

Monday 30 September – Friday 4 October

Trial exams can be incredibly effective in preparing students for the VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) exams. The trial exams simulate the conditions and format of the student's final assessments and providing students the chance to experience the rigorous processes and requirements to adhere to the VCAA exam guidelines, whilst allowing students to familiarize themselves with the types of questions they might encounter.

Feedback from our 2023 Year 12 cohort spoke positively about their experiences during the trial exams and with around 95% of attendance during the week-long trial examination period.  It is our intent that our current students participate with enthusiasm and preparedness as the trial exams helps to identify strengths and weaknesses, refine exam strategies, and improve their time management. Additionally, trial exams provide an opportunity for our students to receive feedback on their performance, which can guide their study focus and revision efforts.

To further benefit students in preparing for their final exams, various resources can be utilized:

Past Exam Papers: Reviewing past VCE exam papers helps students understand the format and types of questions typically asked. Many educational websites and institutions provide access to these past papers.

Study Guides and Textbooks: Comprehensive study guides and textbooks aligned with the VCE curriculum offer detailed explanations and practice questions.

Online Learning Platforms: There are a range of study materials, practice questions, and forums where students can discuss topics and seek advice.  Students are best to discuss these platforms with their teachers and peers to identify which platforms best support their study needs.

School Resources: Our subject teachers can offer sound advice and support through the professional relationships they have with our students. Additional resources including revision sessions, workshops, and access to our teachers up until the exam day can provide guidance and support for every student undertaking the VCE exams.

Peer Study Groups: Forming study groups with classmates can provide mutual support, diverse perspectives, and collaborative learning opportunities.

Utilising these resources alongside trial exams can greatly enhance a student's preparation and confidence for the written and practical VCE exams.
