Important Notice about Student Laptops

Dear Parents and Guardians,
RE: Encouraging Students to Value Their Laptops – An Important Reminder for Parents
As we progress through the academic year, the importance of taking care of College issued laptops cannot be overstated. These devices are essential tools for learning, providing students with access to digital resources, assignments, and communication with their teachers. However, we’ve noticed that some students may not be treating their laptops with the care they deserve – and this is presenting as a concern.
Why Laptop Care Matters
Laptops are not just a convenience; they are an investment in your child’s education. A well-maintained device can significantly enhance their learning experience, while a damaged or poorly maintained one can hinder their progress.
Proper care of these devices ensures that they remain functional and efficient, avoiding interruptions in learning due to repair or replacement needs.
How You Can Help
We ask for your support in encouraging your child to value and take responsibility for their laptop. Here are a few tips to share with them:
- Handle with Care: Remind your child to always carry their laptop in its protective case and to avoid placing heavy items on it.
- Keep it Clean: Encourage them to regularly clean the keyboard and screen with appropriate materials, and to keep food and drinks away from the laptop.
- Charge Regularly: Make sure they charge their laptop each night, so it is ready for the next school day.
- Report Issues Promptly: If the laptop isn’t functioning properly, encourage them to report the issue to the College’s IT department immediately.
Understanding the Costs
To give you a better sense of the value of these devices, below is a list of common repair or replacement costs:
- Screen Replacement: $150 – $250 depending on model
- Keyboard Replacement: $80 – $85
- Charging Cable Replacement: $45 – $48
By understanding these costs, we hope students will appreciate the importance of treating their laptops with care. Neglect or damage can lead to unexpected expenses, which we want to avoid. Limiting damage to laptops leads to less interruption to student learning and cost to parents and guardians.
A Collective Effort
We believe that with your support, we can help our students understand the importance of valuing and caring for their laptops. By fostering responsibility, we can ensure that these vital tools remain in excellent condition, supporting your child’s education throughout the year.
Thank you for your continued support in making Marist-Sion College a positive and productive learning environment.
Kind regards,
