Good Afternoon Parents Students, Staff and Friends of Derinya,
It has been another wonderful and productive time at our school, filled with learning, celebration and strong community spirit. It is always heartening to see our students embracing new opportunities and our staff working together to create engaging and supportive learning experiences.
Teaching and Learning
Teaching and learning continue to be at the heart of everything we do. Recently, we welcomed principals and learning specialists from across our network to participate in peer reviews of classroom practice. These reviews provided valuable opportunities to share expertise, reflect on our work and celebrate the high-quality teaching taking place throughout our school. A strong focus was placed on formative assessment and checks for understanding ensuring teachers regularly gather evidence of student learning, respond to individual needs and adjust their teaching so every student can make progress. We are grateful to our network colleagues for their thoughtful feedback and collaborative approach.
Book Week
Book Week has been a highlight. It was wonderful to see our students celebrating books, stories and the magic of reading. A special thank you to author Sheila Knaggs for joining us at assembly and sharing her beautiful books with our Prep and Year 5 students. Her visit brought the world of storytelling to life and inspired many enthusiastic young readers and writers.
Events
Our Year 6 Market Day was also a great success and provided students with an authentic learning experience focused on financial literacy, entrepreneurship and marketing. Students worked collaboratively to develop their ideas, plan their products, consider pricing and promotion, and interact confidently with their customers. It was fantastic to see their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills in action.
We are now looking forward to our upcoming junior production and Challenge Disco. These events promise to be wonderful opportunities for our students to perform, connect with friends and celebrate their many talents. Thank you to the staff, families and volunteers whose time and enthusiasm make these memorable experiences possible.
Finally, I wish all the fathers, grandfathers and other special people in our students’ lives a very happy Father’s Day. We hope your day is filled with happiness! A huge shout out to our Community Connect team for running this years Father’s and Special Person’s Day Stall.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead.
Nadine Pye on behalf of the Derinya Team.
