Multiplication and Division in 3/4

Over the past fortnight, our Grade 3/4 students have been busy developing their multiplication and division skills. Students have been learning and practising a range of strategies to help them solve problems confidently and explain their mathematical thinking.

To put these skills into action, students worked in small groups to complete a Fruit Salad Rich Task. They were challenged to use multiplication and division to work out how different amounts of fruit could be shared equally between eight classes.

Working together on butcher’s paper, students showed their calculations, compared different strategies and explained how they reached their answers. It was fantastic to see so much teamwork, mathematical discussion and problem-solving in action!
