Altona District Athletics
On Friday 30th August, 35 primary students participated in the Altona District Athletics. It was a windy day down at Newport, yet our students were not worried and had an incredible day out on the track. We have 17 students progressing to the Hobsons Bay Division Athletics on Tuesday 10th September. A huge thank you to Year 9 students Alex, Jackson, Jasmine, Makayla, Levi and Rachel for their assistance in running the track events and discus. Another huge thank you to our parent volunteers: Cath, Adrian, Charmaine, Glen, Michelle and Chris who assisted in organising a new marquee and teardrop banner, running the long jump and ensuring students got to their events on time. The support has been invaluable and is so appreciated!
Social Skills Group
In our social skills groups, students have made impressive progress in developing key abilities such as turn-taking, cooperation, and teamwork, through activities. Through cooking the students are working on feeling confident in their communication and forming stronger friendships.
2024 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant Program
We’re thrilled to announce that we have received a 2024 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant for our project ‘A Beautifying Butterfly Garden’ to enhance the garden outside the junior stem building.
Altona College is one of 1,041 primary schools and early learning centres across Australia to receive a Woolworths Junior Landcare grant to help grow our next generation of environmental champions. The project is being completed by a group of Year 3 and 4 students, who are excited to improve the number of butterflies that visit the school. They have each chosen plants that are known to attract butterflies, they have prepared the site for planting and begin the planting process. They will continue to plant and care for the area throughout the remainder of the school year.
The children are looking forward to getting their hands dirty and learning from this project – we’ll keep you updated!
