Principal's Report

Dear families and friends of MPW

Congratulations to our Foundation students who celebrated 100 days of school on Monday. It was fantastic to see students having fun yesterday, dressing up and engaging in lots of ‘100’ themed activities! Thank you to Room 13, who shared a special ‘100 days of school’ presentation at assembly.

Well done to our students who were part of their 3-Way Conference discussions last week. It was great to hear students celebrate their learning, engage in self reflection and share their goals alongside their teachers and parents.

MPW Trivia Night Fundraiser

A big thank you to the fundraising committee, Sandra, Julie, Sarah, Amanda and Bec, for their efforts organising the Trivia Night. On Saturday afternoon the group and I spent some time setting up the gym for the ‘Let The Music Move You’ theme, a shout out to Amanda for her work with the decorations and props. It really set the mood and fun of the night.

We had a variety of music related costumes and themed tables, including KISS, The Wiggles, Robert Palmer (Addicted to Love), custom t-shirts, Prince, two Amy Winehouse’s and some 80s rock stars. It was a fun and engaging night for all.

The funds raised from the Trivia Night will go towards enhancing and updating our outdoor environments, including outdoor seating and passive areas.

A reminder that the Online Auction will be open until Friday 9th August, so there is still time to bid on the items.

A big thank you to those who sponsored and made donations to support the event.

Thank you to those who were able to attend and contribute to the school’s fundraising efforts. Please the report on the Fundrasing page. Enjoy some photos of the setup!

MVIMP Camp this week

This week we have students attending the Moonee Vale Instrumental Music Program (MVIMP) Camp alongside students from the other participating schools: Ascot Vale, Ascot Vale West and Moonee Ponds Primary Schools. This year nominated students will again head to Urban Camp in Parkville. The camp includes the opportunity for intensive instrument lessons that culminate in a Thursday evening concert for these students’ families.  I look forward to attending their concert Thursday night with parents of the students attending, it is always a remarkable evening and performance.

Parent/Carer Opinion Survey

This survey helps our school gain an understanding of how our families view our school climate, student engagement, and relationships. We use the results to inform school planning and improvement strategies. All families will be invited to participate in the survey this year and will have received a personalised link to access.

The survey is conducted online by ORIMA Research and only takes 20 minutes to complete. All responses to the survey are anonymous. We appreciate your time and effort in completing the survey. Families will be able to access the survey until Friday 30 August.

Book Week is Coming

Book week commences the week of the 19th August. The theme this year is “Reading is Magic”. On Monday 19th August, in week 6, we kick off Book Week celebrations with our usual Dress Up Day. Students are encouraged to come to school dressed as a book character. There will be a special parade held at Assembly. Book Week continues the school’s highlighting of rich literature and love of reading. Students will be able to connect with their favourite book, read it again and recommend it to others. We look forward to students and staff dressing up as their favourite book characters.

Capital Works Update

Finally, we hit two milestones in the Capital Works program. Firstly, our F-2 students have now moved back into the Hall Building. The space has come up amazing, feeling much lighter and open.

We also had one of our portables removed from the school site last Thursday. The second portable will be demolished this week and work will commence on the removal of the current surface in preparation for resurfacing and installation of the new Little Adventure play space. This area will be inaccessible for the next few months as this work is underway. We look forward to getting back the updated space later this year.

Here are some photos of the work:
