 Welcome

Wawa, Wominjika.

Here at Old Orchard Primary School, we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we visit each day, the Wurrunguri and Woiwurrung people of the Kulin nation.  We acknowledge and respect the elders and leaders past and present and the elders and leaders of all of the cultures and nationalities that are part of the Old Orchard Primary School community.  We express our gratitude towards the orchards that were kept in place by the peoples on this land before us.  We thank the traditional owners for sharing this beautiful land that we all love, and for keeping the land, sky, waterways and animals all in great condition for thousands of years, not only for themselves but for all the generations to come.

Welcome

Welcome back to school for what will be a fantastic term of learning, complemented by events including the Year 3 & Year 4 camps, the Prep Zoo Excursion, the Junior Concert, Book Week, the Victorian State Schools Spectacular and much more.

We were particularly excited to welcome 35 short term international students, primarily from China, who will join our school community for stays of from 4 to 6 weeks.

Industrial action

As advised yesterday, industrial action is continuing as part of designated Statewide Stopwork Day and we anticipate significant disruptions to our school operations. On the day of the stopwork in March, only 8 students were in attendance. I will send home further information as it becomes available early next week.

Building works

We were excited to return to school to find the temporary fencing at the front of the school had been dismantled and the new front door and entrance, and the new bathroom were ready for use. We have already noticed a huge improvement in ease of access for visitors and a significant aesthetic improvement. Works on the accessible bathrooms in the Gymnasium and Drayton Hall are continuing and we look forward to these being completed in the near future.

NAPLAN

Students in Years 3 & 5 will be receiving their Individual Student Reports this week. We have had a slight change of plan and will be sending home a hard copy of the report instead of the electronic version. Parents may also request an electronic version by emailing lisa.alfredini@education.vic.gov.au

Parent - Teacher Chats

Our Term 3 Parent-Teacher Chats are scheduled to be held across the next 2 weeks. Please ensure that you arrive 5 minutes or so ahead of your scheduled timeslot to enable teachers to keep to their schedule.

Warm regards
