Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to all of our students, families and staff! We hope everyone had a wonderful break and had the opportunity to relax, recharge and enjoy some special time together.

We are excited to begin another fantastic term of learning at Modbury School P-6. Term 3 promises to be filled with engaging learning experiences, opportunities for students to grow and achieve their personal best, and many exciting events that bring our school community together.

There is certainly plenty to look forward to over the coming weeks, with special celebrations, learning opportunities, excursions, sporting events and community activities all planned. We encourage families to keep an eye on our newsletter, ClassDojo and school communications so you don't miss any of the exciting happenings throughout the term.

Staffing Update

Congratulations to Paula Cope, who will be remaining with Support Services team at Para Hills for Term 3 in a Behaviour Coach role. 

For Term 3, Christina James will be teaching in Room 9 on Mondays, and Sarah Dawidowski will be teaching in Room 9 from Tuesday to Friday. Both Christina and Sarah are highly dedicated educators and Room 9 students will continue to benefit from quality teaching and a supportive classroom environment. 

Facilities update

Over the recent school holidays, several improvement projects were completed across our school as part of our ongoing commitment to providing a clean, safe and welcoming learning environment for all students.

New carpet has been installed in our STEM space, creating a fresh and comfortable learning environment for students to explore, create and innovate.

Our Preschool decking has been freshly oiled and maintained, ensuring it remains safe, protected and looking its best for our youngest learners.

Our outdoor classroom has had the installation of new seating and a whiteboard, providing students and staff with an engaging space for learning in the fresh air. We are looking forward to completing this space this term for our students to enjoy. 

In Room 12, a new air conditioner bulkhead has been completed, improving the appearance and functionality of the space.

To further enhance student safety, new fencing has been installed around our playground area. This now looks streamlined and modern. 

We are proud to continue investing in our school facilities and thank our community for their ongoing support as we work to create the very best learning environment for our students.

Celebrating outstanding NAPLAN results at Modbury School P-6

We are thrilled to share the outstanding achievements of our Year 3 and Year 5 students in the recent NAPLAN testing. Our learners have demonstrated excellent progress and commitment to their studies, far exceeding the goals we set as a school.

• Year 3 Numeracy: Our goal was for 30% of students to reach the Strong or Exceeding Proficiency levels. We are proud to announce that 57% of our Year 3 students achieved this standard in Numeracy!
• Year 3 Reading: We aimed for 30% in the Strong or Exceeding range, and an impressive 61% of Year 3 students achieved this in Reading!
• Year 5 Numeracy: With a goal of 30% at Strong or Exceeding levels, our Year 5 students performed exceptionally, with 63% reaching this benchmark in Numeracy!
• Year 5 Reading: Our target was 30%, and we are delighted that 64% of Year 5 students achieved Strong or Exceeding in Reading!

These fantastic results reflect the hard work of our students, the dedication of our teaching staff, and the ongoing support from our families. At Modbury School P-6, we are committed to helping every child reach their full potential and to fostering high standards in learning. Congratulations to all students on these fantastic results! Student NAPLAN results will be sent home this week in an envelope.

2026 Book Week theme 

The 2026 Children’s Book Week theme is ‘Symphony of Stories’. We are thrilled to announce that Book Week is just around the corner - Term 3 Week 5! Our Book Week parade will be held on Tuesday 18th August in the morning in our school gym. Families are welcome to join us for this special event. This year’s enchanting theme, 'Symphony of Stories,' celebrates the magic, connection, and creativity that books bring to our lives. Throughout the week, students will immerse themselves in a kaleidoscope of reading adventures, participate in exciting activities, and discover how every story adds a unique note to our school’s special tune.

We encourage families to share in the excitement—enjoy stories together at home, talk about your favourite books, and help your child prepare for our much-anticipated Book Week Parade! 

🎭 Week 6 Arts Showcase – A Celebration of Creativity!

Week 6 is shaping up to be an exciting celebration of the Arts at Modbury School P–6! Our students will enjoy a fantastic line-up of performances that will inspire creativity, imagination and a love of music and storytelling.

Students will be entertained by the lively Book Week performance, Wake Up and Read, celebrating the joy of reading through engaging theatre. They will also experience the energetic sounds of the SAPOL Police Band, showcasing the power and excitement of live music, before enjoying Musica Viva's Music in My Suitcase, an interactive performance that takes students on a musical journey through cultures and instruments from around the world.

These wonderful experiences provide our students with the opportunity to connect with the Arts, broaden their appreciation of music and performance, and spark curiosity and creativity. We can't wait to see the excitement and inspiration these performances bring to our school community!

🌲 Year 5/6 Camp Adventure Awaits! 🌲

The countdown is on! In week 3, our Year 5/6 students will head off to Woodhouse Adventure Park for what promises to be an unforgettable camp experience filled with fun, friendship and adventure!

From exciting outdoor challenges and team-building activities to stepping outside their comfort zones, camp is a wonderful opportunity for students to grow in confidence, create lasting memories and strengthen friendships. Throughout the camp, our students will have countless opportunities to live out our school values of Connect, Challenge and Create while also demonstrating our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) values by choosing to Be Kind, Be Safe and Be Resilient.

We can't wait to hear all about the adventures, laughter and achievements when they return. Have an amazing time, Year 5/6—we know you'll make us all proud and represent our school community beautifully. Enjoy every moment! 

OSHC Educators Day 

Next Wednesday (29 July 2026), we celebrate OSHC Educators Day—an opportunity to recognise and thank our outstanding OSHC (Out of School Hours Care) staff - Nicola and the team. Our OSHC educators play an essential role in supporting our students and families, providing a safe, engaging, and caring environment before and after school, as well as during school holidays.

From creative activities to homework support and building positive relationships, our OSHC team goes above and beyond to ensure every child feels welcome, valued, and supported. We sincerely thank our OSHC educators for their commitment, enthusiasm, and the positive impact they have on our school community each and every day.

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day - Tuesday 4 August 2026 (Week 3)

At Modbury School P-6, we acknowledge and celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Day is an opportunity for our community to come together in respect and reflection, recognising the unique place these cultures hold in Australia’s story.

Berry Street Education Model

At Modbury School, we are dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all students. Our staff have undertaken training in the Berry Street Education Model, a leading, evidence-based trauma-informed approach designed to equip teachers with strategies to best support children’s social, emotional, and academic development.

This approach recognises that students learn best when they feel safe, connected, and understood. By using the Berry Street Education Model, we focus on building positive relationships, teaching emotional regulation skills, and fostering resilience. Our classrooms promote predictability and routine, ensuring all children know what to expect throughout their day.

For families, this means you can expect to see our staff working together to create welcoming spaces and offering consistent routines for all children. We prioritise wellbeing by encouraging open communication, helping children recognise and manage their emotions, and supporting them through challenges. We understand that strong partnerships with families are vital for our students' success and wellbeing.

By adopting these trauma-informed strategies, we aim to give every student the opportunity to feel safe and supported at school, which sets the foundation for improved learning, engagement, and overall wellbeing.

Reminder - Accessible parking on Gold Court 

A friendly reminder to all families and visitors that the accessible parking space on Gold Court is reserved exclusively for vehicles displaying a valid Disability Parking Permit.

We kindly ask that this space is only used by permit holders to ensure members of our school community who require accessible parking have safe and convenient access to our school grounds.

Parent Survey opens soon

The Parent Survey opens soon and we want to hear from you. Your feedback will help us understand:

• what we are doing well
• where we can improve
• what is most important to you as a parent or carer

You will receive an unique link to access the school survey from Monday 27 July. The survey closes at midnight Sunday 6 September. 

Reporting Student Absences

We kindly remind families to please notify the school of any student absences before 9:30 am wherever possible. Absences can be reported by calling the front office or by communicating with your child’s classroom teacher via Class Dojo.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain accurate attendance records and ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
