Year 3/4 Classroom Update

In the past few weeks in English, we have been focusing on how authors use imagery, symbols and salience in literature. After learning and analysing these techniques we created our own page for the book Piano Fingers, by focusing on how we can make words and images stand out to the reader and use figurate language to influence meaning. Everyday we are continuing to practice to read fluently with expression, accuracy and appropriate rate. We are now giving specific feedback to a partner using a Fluency Feedback Chart.

In Maths we have been learning about Multiplication and Area. We have looked at helpful rules and lots of different and efficient ways to solve multiplication facts, which is also helping us now solve area problems using the grid structure. We have been playing lots of warm up games to practice and consolidate our multiplication facts as well as listening to our times table songs every morning.

This term in Drama we have been focusing on Cinderella and we are challenging the fairy tales stereotypes by creating a new perspective on the traditional tale. As a class we have come up with different roles and outcomes for these characters. We look forward to performing Cinderman on Thursday for the Kindergarten students.

In Science we have been learning about the Earth’s Surface and how humans and natural processes cause the Earth’s Surface to change. We have used a range of interactive websites to see how the Earth’s Surface has changed from 500 million years ago to looking at more recent change caused by humans over the past 40 years.

NAIDOC 2024

Ryan Partridge and Mackenzie Larkings have worked with Jen (AEA) and Mrs Flanagan to design artworks for a NAIDOC Week display at the Commonwealth Bank. Their artworks are spectacular. Feel free to have a look at them in the window during the holidays.
