Farewell to the Class of 2025

A Celebration to Remember
As the Year 12 students of Coburg High School wrapped up their final week, they did so with the perfect blend of spirit, style, and sentiment. The celebrations reflected not only their individuality but also the strong sense of community that has defined their time at CHS. We made the comment several times throughout the festivities that this cohort has been a kind and communal group, especially this year.
The second-last day saw our graduates take part in an ‘evolving’ tradition of adorning and altering their uniforms. There were colourful and creative embellishments, and even a few glittery touches all in good fun and no one received a detention. Students spent the day signing each other’s shirts and collecting messages from teachers, a fitting keepsake of their journey through secondary school.
On their final morning, the Class of 2025 arrived in an array of imaginative costumes, ready to enjoy a full breakfast lovingly prepared by Annie and the café staff. Sharon Strezleki, students dressed as certain handsome staff members and quite a few super heroes and professionals were all represented. The atmosphere was one of excitement and nostalgia as everyone gathered for a student run assembly that celebrated their years at CHS. Stories were shared, photos gathered by Captain Hasti shown, and there was a real sense of pride for what this group had achieved.
Following the assembly, the students took part in one of Coburg High’s more established rituals, ‘The Guard of Honour’. The entire school lined the paths as the graduates made their way through the grounds one last time. Under perfect blue skies, “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” by Green Day played over the loudspeakers, a song that staff stress has the emphasis on the chorus, not the title :)
The celebrations continued that evening at the magnificent San Remo Ballroom, where superhero costumes were traded for elegant evening wear. The ballroom was filled to capacity with graduates, families, and staff all gathered to mark this milestone. The night was a spectacular success and was filled with warmth, laughter, and pride.
Musical entertainment was provided by talented student guitarists Joshua McDonald and Zac El-Alo. The evening also saw Sally Scruby announced as the 2025 School Valedictorian, delivering a heartfelt speech that encapsulated the Class of 2025’s shared journey and collective spirit.
