ENROLMENT INFORMATION SESSION - WEDNESDAY 14TH MAY, 7PM, HUB
FIRST EUCHARIST FAMILY FAITH EVENING - THURSDAY 15TH MAY, 6PM, HUB
Dear St Michael’s School families,
We wish all our families a Happy Mother's Day. Celebrate all the women in your lives and their amazing contributions to family and their community.
Prayer: Mother's Day prayer, from our Mother's Day breakfast:
We are grateful to God in choosing to give us life through our mothers, and that our mothers received the gift of life from God’s hands and gave it to us.
We thank you God, for the warmth they give our home,
for the cuts and bruises they make well,
for the ideas they give us when we don’t have anything to do,
for all the times they talk and listen to us
and for the ways they make peace when we are unhappy with each other.
We thank them for seeing the good in us that we sometimes don’t see in ourselves.
Through Christ, our Lord we pray.
Amen

MOTHER'S DAY BREAKFAST & GIFT STALL
What a fabulous morning we had last Friday with an incredible turn out of mothers and special friends to our Mother's Day breakfast. It was wonderful to see so many were able to be present and the children seemed to greatly enjoy this special time with their mums!
This year, due to the changing nature of teachers' industrial agreement around workload, the PFA added Mother's and Father's Day celebrations to their agenda for consideration. This year, the PFA will be leading both of these celebrations, with the presence of staff for the events. A HUGE thank you is extended to the members of the PFA for making this happen, continuing the community building for which St Michael's is known and celebrated.
Special thanks need to be extended to the following for their efforts last Friday:
- Members of the PFA, specifically Therse Molnar, Cheryl Tan, Gil Rapose, Melissa Papazzo, Monica Vong Porta, Alice Dwyer and Jess Deschepper for making all the arrangements for the breakfast and the Sunday ladies lunch and all the set up behind the scenes.
- Year Prep / One / Two teachers for preparing the students to sing a song to the community.
- Ray Hickey for the beautiful prayer that was celebrated at the end of breakfast.
- Adric Small (TheirCare Coordinator) for coming in early, despite not having any children to care for, and helping with food preparation!
- Laura Long and the Prep mums for purchasing, set up and selling of the Mother's Day Gift Shop.
- Cupcake Central for their contribution of cupcakes for each mum as a gift. Cupcake central is a Melbourne based company so it's wonderful to connect with a local business. Thank you Cheryl Tan for arranging this!
We call NOW for any dads or special friends who are able to lead / help organise the Father's Day breakfast in September. Please email Therese at therese.molnar@gmail.com to express your interest.
CONGRATULATIONS JAMES MCILROY
Last week Mr McIlroy attended his Bachelor of Education graduation ceremony. We take this opportunity to congratulate James and wish him every happiness with his career in teaching! It has been wonderful working with James this year as he works in our Year Three/Four Team and the children have really taken to him. Well done James!
SCHOOL ENHANCEMENT SESSION
Last Saturday we had an amazing turn out of parents and special friends of the students at our School Enhancement Session. We were able to accomplish all the tasks on our list, including: spread of softfall around the biggie; repair of back fence with some additional reinforcement; erection of remaining covers on garden beds; clearing of another garden bed for further planting; trimming of many of the trees around the property and mulching of some garden areas. A huge thank you to all who attended and your hard work on the day. It was lovely to gather afterwards for a BBQ and celebrate our achievements!
INFORM & EMPOWER ONLINE SESSIONS
Over the next two weeks our students will be taking part in webinars with their classroom teachers which will reinforce the learning they did in Term One with regard to online safety. This is prepared for us by Inform & Empower, and is part of our overall programming around Information Technology use at St Michael's School.
NForma PARENT PORTAL - ADVICE OF STUDENT ABSENCE
A reminder to all families to please use the NForma Portal to notify the school when your child is going to be away or late or needs to be collected early. We understand this in a change in systems and appreciate the change in thinking around this.
YEAR FIVE / SIX CAMP - SOVEREIGN HILL
All our Year Five/Six students left for camp this morning very excited about the prospect of the next three days. They are in for a real treat as they experience from the 1850s: gold panning, candle making, a gold pouring demonstration and how they make boiled lollies. We look forward to their wonderful stories upon their return.
LEVEL NEWSLETTERS
This week, you will have received Year Level newsletters from your child’s classroom teachers. We encourage you to take a few moments to read through them, as they offer valuable insight into your child’s learning for the term. By engaging with what your child is exploring in class, you can help deepen their understanding and support them in making meaningful connections with the topics.
CLOSURE DAY THIS TERM
We remind families that on Friday 6th June, St Michael's will hold it's next closure day. This is the Friday before the King's Birthday (Monday 9th June). TheirCare has been notified of this day so please book in for care on this day if required.
ST MICHAEL'S SCHOOL KINDER KIDS SESSIONS
Do you have a 3 or 4 year old toddler at home? If so, please note down these dates as our Kinder Kids sessions for this year. Any kinder children are welcome to attend and meet our Year Five students to share some stories and games together.
