PIPS and PICS Reports

In term 3 VAPS' facilitators conducted incursions are schools across Melbourne.
Students experienced Philosophy in Classroom Spaces engaging in deep dialogue about identity, consciousness, freedom and rights through concept exploration and philosophical drama reenactments of thought experiments.
VAPS also offered a Philosophy in Public Spaces event where 60 students from different schools came to the Melbourne Zoo to explore the ethical dilemmas associated with protecting animals in captivity, exploring questions about freedom while watching the animals (see the photo below of students in a 'put yourself on a line' activity in front of the lions).
90 Year 11 VCE students also had the opportunity to attend a VAPS PIPS event at the University of Melbourne's Science Gallery. They deepened their understanding of ethical issues in relation to the concept of 'emergency' and our responsibilities to respond.
These opportunities made for engaging days of deep philosophical dialogue and opening up the worlds of young people to the other perspectives of their peers.
