Harmony Week - Iftar Dinner: 16th of March
As many in our community know, our Iftar event has become a tradition in March each year. This has been a night where we open our school on an evening to come together and share a meal during Ramadan, which is a special time for many in our community. Last year, we had a wonderful evening with many families joining us.
This year, in the spirit of including everyone and with it falling so close to Harmony Week, we are encouraging all families to join us and bring a meal that represents their culture. Though the school will be providing a barbecue, popcorn and water, we are hoping for a large turnout, with a communal picnic type of feel where we can all connect and learn about each other’s food and culture.
After speaking with several families, we have decided to hold the event on Monday the 16th of March, from 7:00pm – 8:45pm. On this night, the school gates will open from 7:00pm, and families will be invited in to set up for eating time, which is projected to be between 7:30 and 8:00pm (when the sun sets), as is tradition during Ramadan.
Ways to Participate
Option 1: Share a Dish
Contribute to the communal table by bringing:
A main course for the shared table
A dessert to spread some sweetness
Savoury snacks for everyone to enjoy
Option 2: Bring Your Own
If you prefer, you’re welcome to bring food for just you and your family.
Whether you are participating in Ramadan or coming along to connect with others and share part of your culture, all are welcome and encouraged to join us.
What to Bring
Beyond food, we will have some tables and chairs available, but to ensure comfort, we encourage families to bring a picnic blanket or extra chairs.
Registering for the Event:
To help us plan and ensure enough space for all, please register for the event and let us know if you are coming: https://compasstix.com/event/429fd4e1-81f6-4ef0-b100-8c0bc6e8c5d4
Please also be aware that any child attending must be joined by an appropriate parent or guardian.
For those who are observing Ramadan, separate male and female prayer spaces will be provided.
If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact the school office.
That’s all from me for another fortnight. Keep smiling!
Kind Regards,
Brock Wilson
