Week 4 Reflections

It has been wonderful greeting students each morning before school. There is such a positive buzz of energy as they enter the grounds, especially as many eagerly wait to greet Maggie. A friendly reminder that our school supervision begins at 8:45am, when staff commence yard duty.

Our energetic Foundation students are continuing to build their independence by strengthening their morning routines — walking to the play area and lining up, ready to meet their teacher and education support staff.

Last week, we warmly welcomed members of our school community at our annual Welcome to Naranga BBQ. Thank you to the families who were able to join staff and students — we truly appreciate you taking the time to attend and connect with our community.

Students in the senior school have begun a seven-week program delivered by Body Safety Australia. The program focuses on affirmative consent, respectful relationships, and age-appropriate sexuality education. This week, we hosted a Body Safety parent information session, where Jay, our facilitator, outlined the content to be delivered and provided families with the opportunity to ask questions. This program forms part of our continued commitment to student health and wellbeing.

On Wednesday morning at assembly, our new school leaders have started hosting the school assembly. This is an important aspect of our student leadership program, providing valuable opportunities for students to develop their confidence and public speaking skills.

An exciting addition to our playground programs is the Gaga Pit in the senior school. Located behind the BER building, the Gaga Pit is a fast-paced variation of dodgeball, where players strike a soft ball with their hands, aiming to hit opponents below the knees. It is already proving to be very popular among students.

This week, students in the junior school have begun preparing for their Community Access Program, which provides valuable opportunities to develop independence, social skills, and real-world learning experiences.

Thank you for a wonderful week.

A reminder to please ensure students who ride the bus are met promptly at their drop-off. Drivers cannot leave students unattended without written permission. If no adult is present, the bus waits 3 minutes before continuing. Unattended students will be returned to school, and parents will be contacted for pickup.

Thank you for helping us keep all students safe.

Play Program - Week 3 & 4

This past fortnight at Play Program, the students have been building upon their abilities to work together as a team. Students have been practicing supporting one another during different group games in the yard.

  • We had a HUGE group of students join a game of Octopus. A standout moment of this game was Aleshia's demonstrated resilience and the kind encouragement of her peers when she was tagged.

  •  Some of the students facilitated an independent game of basketball. Mason gave it his all, getting multiple goals in a row for his team.

  • Gabriella, Harvey and Tristan created their own game! They took on the roles of Firefighter, Policeman and Paramedic. They zoomed around the yard as a team, seeking out 'emergencies' and providing support to their friends.

Etching in the Art Room

Students have been exploring the fundamentals of etching in their recent Visual Arts lessons. Using Zart cardboard and foam etching boards, students created their own printing plates and discovered how artists use line, pattern, texture and contrast to produce expressive prints.

Throughout the unit, students experimented with a series of test prints, refining their designs and learning how different techniques affect the final result. They then applied their skills and understanding to produce a completed printed artwork.

It has been wonderful to see students developing their creativity, problem-solving skills and confidence as young printmakers!

MEDICATION

The information below is from the Department of Education policy advisory line.

Schools must ensure all medication to be administered is:

  • accompanied by written advice providing directions for appropriate storage and administration
  • in the original container with the original label including the name of the student, information on the dosage and time to be administered
  • within its expiry date
  • stored according to the product instructions, particularly in relation to temperature.

Schools should encourage parents or carers to consider whether they can administer medication outside the school day, such as before and after school and before bed.

Over-the-counter medications (including paracetamol) require a medication authority form.
