Principal's Post

TERM 4: 2026 - Week 4

Principal’s Message

Principal's Post – Week 3 & 4!

Sometimes it feels as though so much happens in just two weeks! When I sit down to write these posts, it reminds me just how busy schools are and how many opportunities we work to provide for our students.

Firstly, I would like to acknowledge the continued sense of calm we are noticing across the school. This doesn't happen by chance. It comes from consistent routines, predictable expectations and the efforts of both staff and students to create a positive learning environment.

One message I would like to reinforce with our school community is that every child has the right to feel safe, the right to learn and the opportunity to make the most of their school experience. We recognise that students have different learning and wellbeing needs, and at times additional support and adjustments are required. Our responsibility is to provide these supports while ensuring that the rights of all students to feel safe and learn are respected.

Year 4 and Year 5 Camps

Our Year 4 and Year 5 students have enjoyed their school camps over the past fortnight. A big thank you to all our staff and parent helpers who gave their time to make these experiences possible. I would also like to acknowledge our amazing students, who demonstrated exceptional behaviour, embraced new challenges and showed a willingness to step outside their comfort zones and try new experiences. Camps provide wonderful opportunities for students to build independence, strengthen friendships and create lasting memories.

Prep Transition – Welcoming Our 2027 Students

Over the past two weeks, we have welcomed our incoming 2027 Prep students as part of our transition program. Starting school is such an exciting milestone, but we also understand that it can bring some nervousness for both children and their families.

It has been lovely to meet our newest students and see them begin exploring their classrooms, meeting new friends and becoming familiar with their new school environment. We look forward to continuing to build their confidence and sense of belonging as they prepare for their first year at Wembley Primary School.

Sporting Achievements

Over the past fortnight, we have also had a number of sporting tournaments and events, with many of our students showcasing their athletic talents, teamwork and determination. It has been wonderful to see students representing Wembley Primary School and making the most of these opportunities. We will acknowledge their participation and achievements in our school newsletter, which will be published in Week 5. As we move further into the term, I look forward to seeing our students continue to learn, grow and enjoy the many opportunities that school life brings.

Sentral – Making Communication Easier

You may have noticed a few changes to how we are using Sentral across the school. As part of our commitment to simplifying communication and having one central platform for families, we have introduced a few updates:

  • Student Absences: Parents can now record their child's absence directly through Sentral.
  • School Feed: We have started using the Sentral School Feed to share news, updates and reminders. You will receive a notification when something new is posted and can read it at a time that suits you. Rather than searching through multiple emails, you will be able to find school information in one place – Sentral!
  • Visitor Sign-In: Visitors can now sign in using the Sentral kiosk at the front office, replacing our previous paper sign-in book. (Parents please continue to enter late arrivals and early departures the same way as usual).

We understand that families will need time to become familiar with these changes. For now, important information will continue to be sent by email as well as posted on the School Feed. Over time, we will transition to sharing all school updates through the Sentral Feed, making it easier for families to find everything in one place.

Thank you for your patience and support as we make these improvements.

In our upcoming school newsletter, I will also share a summary of the feedback families provided through last term's communication survey, including their views on Sentral, WhatsApp and social media. This feedback has helped guide the changes we are making to improve and simplify communication across the school.

Preparing Your Child for High School – Year 5 and 6 Families

We invite all Year 5 and Year 6 parents and carers to join us on Wednesday 18 November 2026 for a free information evening to help make the transition to high school as smooth and positive as possible.

We have engaged Cathy Harrison from Rookery Road to facilitate two sessions:

  • Session 1: Making the Move Smooth – Preparing for High School
  • Session 2: Supporting Neurodivergent Students Through Transition

Families are welcome to attend either or both sessions, regardless of which secondary school their child will attend.

Whether your child is heading to high school next year or you are beginning to think about the transition, these sessions will provide practical advice and strategies to support your family. Please register by Monday 16 November 2026. Click here to register your attendance or you can access on the Sentral news feed.

Further information is available on the Sentral School Feed or at www.rookeryroad.com.au.

We encourage all Year 5 and Year 6 families to take advantage of this valuable opportunity.

2027 Class Placement Requests

Thank you to the 88 families who submitted class placement requests based on significant educational or wellbeing reasons. All requests will be carefully considered by our leadership team, and while we will do our best to accommodate as many as possible, we cannot guarantee that every request will be met.

As we are now beginning to structure classes for 2027, no further requests will be accepted unless there are exceptional circumstances. Any new requests must be directed through the school office for my consideration. Thank you for your understanding as we work to create balanced classes that support all students.

Community Noticeboard

One of the wonderful things about our school is the community we are part of. There are so many opportunities for children and families to connect, get involved and explore new interests. Recently, I have received a number of requests to share local events, activities and goodwill initiatives, and I think it is a great opportunity to help keep our families connected with what is happening around us.

While we are planning a broader update of our school website in 2027, we will start by redesigning our existing Community Noticeboard this term.

This will be a space where families can discover local events, sporting clubs, activities, community initiatives and other opportunities that may be of interest.

Have something you would like to share? Simply email the school office with a flyer or brief details, including the activity, date, location, cost (if applicable) and contact information. All submissions will be reviewed before being published.

Our intention is not to promote one organisation or activity over another, but simply to share what is available and give families the opportunity to explore what might interest them.

We hope this becomes another way of strengthening the connections within our wonderful school community.

Planning for 2027

We are well underway with our planning for the 2027 school year. Over the coming weeks, I will use these Principal's Posts to keep families informed about our preparations, including class structures, staffing arrangements, end-of-year processes and curriculum days for 2027. Our aim is to ensure families have clear and timely information as we prepare for the end of this year and look ahead to the next.

Morning Routines, Supervision and SunSmart Reminder

A friendly reminder that our school gates open at 8:30am, however staff supervision begins at 8:45am. Families are asked to be mindful of this when dropping children off in the morning.

Our Breakfast Club will begin packing up at 8:50am to ensure students are ready to line up at 8:55am, enter their classrooms and begin their learning on time.

As part of our SunSmart Policy, students are also expected to wear their school hats when playing outside before and after school, as well as during recess and lunchtime.

Thank you for supporting these routines and helping us ensure a safe, calm and settled start to each school day.

World Teachers' Day

Today, Friday 30 October, we celebrate World Teachers' Day and acknowledge the incredible work of our dedicated teachers at Wembley Primary School.

Teaching is about so much more than learning in the classroom. It is about building relationships, inspiring curiosity, nurturing confidence and making a lasting difference in the lives of young people.

A heartfelt thank you to all our wonderful teachers for the care, commitment and passion you bring to our students and school community every day.

Happy World Teachers' Day!

Long Weekend Reminder

Just a reminder that Monday 2nd November is a pupil-free day, followed by the Melbourne Cup public holiday on Tuesday 3rd November. Students will return to school on Wednesday 4th November.

Wishing all our Wembley families a wonderful extra-long weekend! Enjoy the break and some quality time together.
