Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Reconciliation Week

This week our College came together as a community to celebrate Reconciliation Week, a significant occasion that fosters reflection, understanding, and the forging of stronger connections. The theme for this year’s Reconciliation Week, 'Bridging Now to Next', highlights the ongoing relationship between the past, present, and future.

As part of our celebrations, the entire school participated in a whole-school assembly, which was organised and led by our students. Their efforts and passion truly brought the ceremony to life, creating an atmosphere of unity and reflection.

We are incredibly proud of our students who not only participated but took the initiative to lead such a significant event. Their commitment and leadership in making this ceremony a reality were truly inspiring.

For those who would like to learn more about the assembly we invite you to visit the Reconciliation page of this newsletter. There you’ll find more details, along with more photos of the incredible piece of art that were revealed as a symbol of our collective journey toward reconciliation.

Supporting Students in Making Informed Choices for Their Future

At our College we are committed to helping our students make informed, thoughtful decisions about their future. As students approach their 2026 subject selections, they will continue to engage with hub staff, careers advisors, and external organisations to better understand the opportunities available to them.

To support both students and their families through this process, we offer a range of opportunities to connect with our hub staff and careers advisors. These conversations provide valuable insights into future pathways, whether that involves further study, entering the workforce, or exploring other post-school options.

We encourage all students and families to take full advantage of these opportunities and ensure they are aware of all the events taking place. These sessions provide guidance, answer questions, and help families make informed choices about their student’s future.

Please stay informed about the upcoming events and ensure you don’t miss out on these important discussions that can help shape your student’s secondary school journey and beyond.

Excursions and Sporting Events: A Busy Few Weeks for Our Students and Staff

Over the past couple of weeks, our students and staff have been actively involved in a range of exciting offsite excursions and sporting events. We encourage you to visit the Sports page of this newsletter to catch up on all the details and highlights from the recent sporting competitions and activities.

In addition to sports, some of our students had the unique opportunity to visit the RAAF Base in Sale this week. This visit gave them a firsthand look at the wide variety of career and training opportunities available at the base, sparking interest in potential future pathways.

Other students took part in visits to Monash University and Swinburne University. During these visits, students met with mentors, engaged in a fun and interactive scavenger hunt, and enjoyed lunch 'university style' in the campus cafeteria — providing a taste of university life and helping them envision their future in higher education.

These excursions not only broaden students’ horizons but also provide valuable experiences that contribute to their personal and educational growth.

Building Strong Work Habits for Lifelong Success

Establishing strong work habits is one of the most important skills we can develop—not just in school, but for life. The foundation of success isn’t always about natural talent it’s about consistently showing up, putting in the effort, and maintaining a positive attitude. That's why we encourage the following habits in our students, habits that we know will help them thrive both academically and personally:

  • Being in class
  • On time
  • Equipment ready
  • Wearing the correct uniform
  • Being an active learner

We believe in our students, and we’re proud of the hard work they put in to be the best version of themselves. Every step forward, no matter how small, brings them closer to their goals.

Thank you to all the members of our Bairnsdale community for the continued support of students and staff at Bairnsdale Secondary College. Your partnership and encouragement play a vital role in creating a positive and thriving learning community. We truly appreciate everything you do to help our students succeed.

Sincerely,
