Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Community Members

School reports will be coming out for semester 1 towards the end of this term. These reports are produced and distributed on the Compass portal. It is vital that all households are accessing Compass so that they can receive essential communications from the school including academic reports. I understand that many people in our community do not necessarily like the Compass app but at this point in time this is our digital platform. I have looked at other possible systems and can assure you that the Compass portal is the most user friendly.

The building works are now on schedule and we expect to be using the new facilities from day 1 next year. The existing building has been completely gutted and the foundations for the new administration building have been laid. We have been working with the architect regarding furnishings and classroom layouts. The old building has thrown us a few curveballs but in all cases we have been able to improve the original design so that is beneficial for the school.

I was recently able to attend the Cochrane Cup Rugby League and Girls League tag event at Inverell. The girls dominated the Year 9 and 10 division completing the day undefeated. This was in spite of having students from Year 7 and 8. The boys played very well and finished second overall losing only to O’Connor in the first match before going on to have wins over Tamworth, Gunnedah and Inverell. The benefits of these days are significant for students to develop school spirit, teamwork and to excel in an arena outside the classroom.

We are looking forward to hosting the athletics carnival on Thursday 27th June. This day is for everyone and not an excuse to have a day off school. We ask that every student participates in events as this is what makes the day enjoyable regardless of abilities. We will also be hosting Oliver Davies from the Sydney Thunder on Wednesday 26th June who will open the Cricket nets and conduct motivational speeches for both Primary and Secondary students as well as conduct coaching clinics.

The school will also be celebrating Naidoc week in week 10. Our cultural leaders at school have produced a great program for the week that the whole school can become involved in. There is something on each day including the Naidoc cup which will be played between the secondary and primary schools of Moree.

After reflecting on my first 100 days at Philies I can say that the thing that stands out is the amount of care and support that the adults in the school display towards the students. We are asked to have a positive high regard for our students and this is genuinely the case. The partnership that exists between the school, students and carers is critical for a child or young person to experience a successful pathway through school. At times problems may occur navigating changes in settings and emotions which is why it is imperative that we all work together to find the best outcomes and supports.

Warm regards

Simon Fleming
