Primary School

On Thursday 11 September, the Year 6 students enjoyed leading their allocated Peer Support group. After Recess, Primary students split into 16 groups to work on the activities planned by the Year 6 students. Leading the groups was an awesome experience for the students and helped them further develop their leadership skills. The students were proud to link their Peer Support activity this term to support RUOK? Day.

"We hosted Group 8 with Jordan in Mrs Frews’ classroom. We marked the roll, shared a slideshow with a video about RUOK? Day, and got the kids chatting about someone they feel safe with. We also explained how Gavin Larkin started RUOK? Day. The kids loved colouring the themed worksheets and playing a big game of Octopus and Celebrity Heads. It was so much fun!"

"We hosted Group 14 with Hannah and Kevin in Mrs Pascoe’s classroom. We showed a slideshow and gave out RUOK? Day colouring sheets to the students, which were super cute! Hannah and I collected the kids while Kevin held up our sign. We finished 10 minutes early and played Octopus outside, with other groups joining in for heaps of fun!"

Jump Rope for Heart

The Year 5 Jump Rope for Heart Program was a great success! Thank you to all the students who got involved and presented excellent skipping routines on Jump Off Day. We have loved seeing so many smiling faces skipping in the yard before school and during recess and lunch, as well as during practice sessions. This year, together we raised an incredible $2,006, and this money will go towards vital heart research and education programs. A big thank you to all the families who gave so generously to support this wonderful initiative.

Father’s Day Celebrations

It was great to welcome many fathers, grandfathers and significant others to our Father’s Day Celebrations last week. The buzz around the school grounds was just wonderful and we hope that all the visitors enjoyed their breakfast.

A special thank you to Kevin Kiely and the MAG Drumline for their highly professional and coordinated beats, as well as the Year 7A Rock Band and the Year 8A Rock Band. Thank you also to Shane McGrath for his preparation of the PA system and management of the rock bands on what was an impressive show.

We appreciate all the support from our registered volunteers who poured the hot drinks, and we would like to acknowledge the generous support from many local businesses who donated raffle prizes to the school. These events would not be possible without the support of our staff, who took on many different roles to ensure the morning ran smoothly. I would like to thank the MAG Parents & Friends volunteers for putting together another great Father’s Day Stall, where students enjoyed the opportunity to shop for their significant others.

CIS Athletics Sydney

On Friday 5 September, 17 Primary students represented the school at the CIS Athletics in Sydney.

Qualifying for this carnival is a wonderful achievement, and as a School we are very proud of all students, who qualified, whether they travelled to Sydney to compete or not. A huge thankyou to Kate and Hannah Downward for coaching our athletes throughout the year and in the leadup to this event. For a full overview of individual student results, please visit the Co-Curricular page further in the newsletter.

Tournament of Minds

On Sunday 31 August, a group of our talented Primary students proudly represented the school in Wagga Wagga at the Riverina Tournament of the Minds. These dedicated students showed an amazing commitment, being ready to get on the bus at 4:30am. One of the teams competed in the Language Literature division, where they brought Shaun Tan’s ‘Eric’ to life in creative and thoughtful ways. Their hard work was recognised with an Honours Award in their division. The second team competed in Social Sciences, where students designed a recreational and sports centre for Moama. They impressed the judges with their creativity, teamwork, and problem solving skills, performing extremely well in their long-term challenge. We are incredibly proud of the dedication, teamwork and time the students committed to these challenges and congratulate them on their results.

Life Changer Session

"On Monday 8 September, the students in Year 6 had their Life Changer workshop. The workshop focused on emotions and where we feel them in our bodies. We did activities to help understand the feelings we experience in life. At the end of the session, the facilitators taught us box breathing and other calming strategies to help us when we need them. We learned so much about emotions and how powerful they can be. Overall, it was a really fun session."

Primary Assembly

On Friday, 5 September, the Primary School community came together for the Primary Assembly, filled with connection, talent, and celebration. A big congratulations to Music Captains William Eacott and Lila Mislicki, as well as School Leader Rafael Hildebrand, for confidently leading the Assembly. The audience was captivated by stunning performances, including Parker Trickett’s graceful ballet routine and Jobe Hoskins’ heartfelt rendition of 'Somewhere Only We Know'.

We were honoured to welcome Kerry Collins and Brian Wilkinson from Kiwanis to present the Term 3 Terrific Kids Awards. These awards recognise one student per class, selected by classroom and specialist teachers, for consistently demonstrating the ‘TERRIFIC Characteristics’: being thoughtful, enthusiastic, respectful, responsible, inclusive, friendly, inquisitive and capable. Stage 1 Assembly

On Wednesday 10 September, Stage 1 gathered in JS12 for an Assembly led by students in Year 2A. The class shared their recent learning from a writing unit, inspired by the mentor text ‘Great White Shark’ by Claire Saxby. Students explained how they explored high modality words in their persuasive writing while studying sharks and even tracking real ones online. To finish, the students confidently presented their persuasive arguments about shark culling, demonstrating their growing skills in writing and their ability to influence an audience through carefully chosen words.

Congratulations to the following Stage 1 Superstars:

Stage 2 Assembly

"On Wednesday 3 September, 3A hosted the Stage 2 Assembly. The hosts were Lucy Spear and Banjo Harrison, with Aiden Dullard giving the Welcome to Country and Amelia Goodsell leading the students and staff in prayer. Many students received awards and shared their wonderful work.

Myles Bensch, Sadie Palmer and Emerson Wright presented their scientific inventions designed to protect people from the sun. Sadie shared her ‘Smoothanator’, Myles presented the ‘Sunscreen Steak’, and Emerson introduced his ‘Body Changer’, which showed how to make your body as strong as rock so it will not get sunburnt. To finish the Assembly, everyone joined in a game of Bobs and Statues. It was a lot of fun!"

Message from the Office

We have seen an increase in the number of students who wear a Smart Watch whilst being at school. In most cases, the intent for wearing a Smart Watch is to read the time, which is obviously appropriate. When students use their Smart Watch during the day for any other intent; contacting a parent or a friend, the same rules apply as set out in the Student Use of Mobile Devices policy. We ask that parents familiarise themselves with this policy.
