Equestrian Squad

On Wednesday 3 September, Bobby Duggan-Hulands (Kinder B) joined our Equestrian Squad Pilot Training Program for the very first time. Riding his new pony, Betty, Bobby braved challenging weather conditions and achieved some incredible firsts—riding off the lead and even attempting his first jumps.

We are very proud of Bobby and all that he accomplished at only his second squad training session.

Senior Boys Netball

The Year 11/12 Senior Boys Netball team travelled to the Knox Netball Centre to compete in the School Championships Tournament. It was a fantastic day of competition, with the boys taking on schools from across the region and securing two wins from their six games. Throughout the tournament, the team showed strong improvement and impressive teamwork, proudly representing the School both on and off the court.

A special congratulations to Trent Gray, who was voted Best and Fairest for his consistent performances and positive attitude on court. The Coach’s Award went to Henry Brown, whose energy, effort and commitment were evident in every game.

We also extend our thanks to Gina Pearson for giving up her lunchtimes to coach the team—your support made a real difference. And of course, thank you to Alicia Moon for umpiring on the day.

CIS State Championships

On Friday 5 September, the primary school aged track and field athletes in Independent Schools across NSW gathered at Sydney Olympic Park - the warm-up track for the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

Seventeen MAG athletes and their families made the trek north. Most attended the team dinner on the Thursday night where we all got to enjoy each other's company and discuss the day ahead.

Across approximately 27 events throughout the day, MAG students ran, jumped and threw with PBs for some and special experiences for all.

Standout performances were:

  • Isabelle Barnett bringing home two medals in her discus and shot put for athletes with a disability.

  • Cleo Haw, Savannah Dicker and Mea Whitelegg each taking on 3 individual events and a relay.
  • MAG's two girls relay teams finishing in the top 10 in their age group
  • Lucy Donnan (12-13 years) shot put finishing fourth - 3 centimetres from a medal!

Congratulations to all the athletes who attended. You should be very proud of your efforts and we hope you are motivated to train in the lead up to school and region athletics again in 2026.

A reminder to anyone that is interested in track and field - the MAG Athletics Squad is available at 7.45am on Monday mornings at Jack Eddy oval. Little Athletics will begin on Friday 10 October at 5.30pm and for those new to athletics, you can attend a free 'Come and Try Little Athletics' event on Friday 3 October at 5.30pm at Jack Eddy oval.

🍳 Breakfast: Fuel for Learning and Growing

We have all heard the saying “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” — and it’s true!

While we sleep, our bodies are hard at work repairing, restoring and keeping everything ticking along. By the time morning rolls around, our energy stores are running low. Think of it like solar panels and a battery: overnight, the battery runs down as it powers the fridge, the washing machine and the TV. When the sun rises, the panels recharge the battery. Breakfast works the same way — it recharges us and helps us power through the day.

Skipping breakfast can have real impacts on health, learning, and wellbeing.

🌱 Why Breakfast Matters

For Health:

  • Keeps appetite in check, preventing overeating later in the day.
  • Many breakfast foods (like cereals) are fortified with essential vitamins and minerals that support growth and development.

For Learning:

  • Provides the brain with glucose — its number one fuel — boosting memory, attention, and problem-solving.
  • Improves classroom focus, reducing restlessness and concentration difficulties.
  • Offers steady energy to avoid the dreaded mid-morning slump.

Building a Balanced Breakfast

For staying power, aim to include a mix of:

  • Protein – keeps kids feeling full.
  • Whole grains – long-lasting energy.
  • Healthy fats – vital for brain health.
  • Fibre – supports digestion.
  • Vitamins & minerals – key for growth.

Easy Breakfast Ideas

  • Wholegrain toast with egg and avocado, or a simple cheese toastie.
  • High-fibre cereal with milk and fresh berries.
  • Natural yoghurt with oats, fruit and a drizzle of honey.
  • A quick fruit smoothie.
  • Muesli bar, a piece of fruit, and a glass of milk.

If mornings feel rushed, try sitting down together, even for just a few minutes. Making breakfast a family routine — and involving kids in the prep — can spark their interest and make it more enjoyable.

A good breakfast really does set the tone for the whole day — for health, for learning, and for happy kids.
