Assistant Principal’s Report

It has been a short but productive week with Monday’s Curriculum Day and the Melbourne Cup Day public holiday on Tuesday. I hope all families were able to enjoy the extended break together, spend some quality time with loved ones, and take the opportunity to rest and recharge.
Our Curriculum Day on Monday was dedicated to writing reports and analysing student data and assessments in preparation for end-of-year reporting. Staff worked collaboratively to review student progress, identify growth, and plan for targeted support as we move toward the final weeks of the school year.
I would also like to acknowledge the wonderful work of Mrs Kate Pumpa, our SWPBS (School Wide Positive Behaviour Support) learning specialist, who has recently revamped our break-time activity options across both the junior and senior yards. Students now have a wider range of engaging choices during recess and lunch, including music, structured ball games, craft, library time, bubbles, chalk art and, for our senior students, Lego club, music, UNO, basketball, dodgeball and even a silent disco—just to name a few!
Providing a variety of break-time activities offers many benefits for students. It supports positive social interactions, encourages inclusive play, and helps students develop important skills such as teamwork, communication and emotional regulation. A purposeful range of options also reduces playground conflict by giving students structured, enjoyable ways to connect with peers, burn energy, or take a quiet break depending on what they need that day. These activities contribute to a calmer return to class, improved focus and overall wellbeing.
As we look forward to the second half of this term—the final one for 2025—we are excited about the events we have coming up. Paul Edbrooke will be attending our assembly on Tuesday 26th November to present student awards. On the same day, from 5–7pm, we will be hosting our school’s 50th Birthday Celebration. Families, past staff, students and community members are warmly invited to join us for an evening of food, entertainment and fun. Please register via TryBooking to attend (details within this newsletter). We also look forward to our Upper Junior Graduation (held during the school day) and, of course, our Year 12 Graduation and Breakfast, both of which will be special milestones for our students.
As we move toward the end of the year, we encourage families to help their children enjoy a healthy balance between extra-curricular activities and downtime at home. Our students work incredibly hard during the school day, and having opportunities to rest, recharge and simply “chill out” supports their wellbeing and their learning.
