Principal's message

Hi Solway Community, 

Welcome back to Term 3. I hope all our students and families had a restful and relaxing winter break and were able to enjoy some quality time together. For me, the break was filled with plenty of family time together. We braved the cold for a trip to Phillip Island to see the penguins. Whilst the fog stopped us from seeing a lot of action on the beach it was great experience for my young daughters. 

It has been wonderful to see our students return to school with such enthusiasm. They have settled back into routines quickly, and over the first four days of term our teachers have deliberately revisited classroom routines, learning expectations and our school values. Taking the time to reinforce these expectations helps create the calm, predictable and supportive learning environments where every student can thrive.

Term 3 promises to be another exciting and busy one for our school community. Preparations are already well underway for our School Production on Wednesday 3 September, with Stomp Dance rehearsals beginning this week. Our Grade 1 to 4 Chess program commences in Week 3, our Grade 3 to 6 House Athletics Carnival will take place in Week 5. We are also looking forward to celebrating Book Week in Week 6, 

Parent Teacher Interviews

A reminder to all families that Parent-Teacher Interviews will be held on Tuesday 28 July, between 2:00pm and 7:00pm.

These interviews are a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress throughout Semester 1, celebrate their achievements, and talk about goals for the remainder of the year. Parents and carers can book a time with their child’s teacher via Compass. Bookings are now open and can be accessed through the Compass portal.

August School Council Meeting

I would like to invite all to attend our next School Council Meeting on Tuesday 4 August at 6:00pm, which will also serve as our Public Reporting Meeting.

At this meeting, I will present the 2025 Annual Report to the School Community, highlighting our achievements, progress, and priorities for improvement. This meeting is an important part of our commitment to transparency and continuous improvement and is a requirement under Department of Education policy. All members of the school community are welcome to attend. I hope you can join us to hear more about how we are working together to support student learning and wellbeing at Solway Primary School.

NCCD Data Collection

Each year, all Australian schools participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). This process involves identifying and recording the adjustments and supports provided to students with disability, in line with national legislation and guidelines. The data collected is non-identifiable and includes the student’s year level, category of disability, and the level of adjustment being provided. This information helps schools reflect on their practices and supports and assists governments in planning for the needs of students with disability across the country.

There is no testing involved, and student privacy and confidentiality are protected in accordance with national privacy laws.
