Assistant Principal Report

Dear Highvale families,
Even though we’re only in Week 4 of Term Two, the school has already been buzzing with energy, learning and a wonderful variety of events. Classrooms, corridors and outdoor spaces have all been alive with activity and it has been fantastic to see students so engaged across every year level.
Be sure to click through all pages of this newsletter to catch up on the amazing things happening throughout the school.
Next week is Education Week, and there will be plenty happening across the school as we celebrate and showcase the amazing learning that takes place at HPS every single day. A highlight of the week will be our Open Classrooms on Wednesday 20 May at 9:15am, where families are warmly invited to step into their children’s classrooms and join in the learning fun. Following classroom visits, please join us for morning tea in the STEAM room at 10:15am, along with a special performance by the talented HPS Choir. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see our students shine and to share in the vibrant learning community we are so proud of.
Dance Curriculum Performances
Over the past week — and continuing into next week — all students across the school have been taking part in our whole‑school dance curriculum. Each year level has been learning its own set of hip hop moves and the energy has been fantastic! The students are incredibly excited to share what they’ve been working on with their families and friends. We warmly invite you to join us for our special dance performances on Friday 22 May.
Performance 1 Prep, Years 2, 4 and 6 students 1:40pm – 2:20pm Families attending this session are asked to arrive at the MPC at 1:30pm to be seated. After the performance, please exit the MPC promptly so that families attending the second session can enter.
Performance 2 Years 1, 3 and 5 students 2:20pm – 3:20pm
To accommodate both performances, the school timetable will be adjusted for the day. Students will have their lunch play break before the performances begin. We can’t wait to celebrate our students’ creativity, confidence and hard work with you.
Volunteer Induction & Training – Tuesday 2 June
We are pleased to let families know that our next Volunteer Induction & Training session will be held on Tuesday 2 June at 9:30am. This session will take place online via Webex, making it easy for anyone interested to join from home or work.
We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support learning in classrooms and assist with special events throughout the year — there are so many wonderful ways to get involved. If you would like to volunteer at our school, please ensure you hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) and have completed the volunteer training either last year or this year.
If you’re keen to take part, please register your interest using the Google Form below. Further details, including the Webex link, will be shared via Compass.

Whole School Colour Run – A Spectacular Splash of Fun!
Friday 1 May was an unforgettable day at HPS as our Whole School Colour Run burst into life. The sun was shining, spirits were high, and the oval buzzed with excitement as classes gathered in their white T‑shirts and sunnies, ready for the fun ahead. As students took to the running track, it didn’t take long for them to embrace the cheers — and the colourful sprays — from teachers and school leaders. Very quickly, the entire school transformed into a sea of colour, with every student taking their turn to run, laugh and revel in becoming a walking rainbow.
It was wonderful to see so many families lining the oval, cheering loudly and joining in the celebration. And just when the excitement couldn’t get any bigger, the final group of senior students returned to their areas and the staff stepped onto the track. An announcement over the loudspeaker confirmed that the school had surpassed its fundraising target of $12,000, which meant one thing — the principal and assistant principal were running too! A roar erupted across the oval as students gleefully showered their teachers and leaders in clouds of colour. The laughter and cheering could be heard well beyond the school grounds.
A huge thank‑you to our incredible staff, students and families who participated and raised funds. Thanks to your amazing efforts, just over $15,000 was raised, which will go directly towards refurbishing the student toilets.
A special congratulations to our top four fundraisers:
1st place: LH (6T) — raised $1700 and won the Nintendo Switch
2nd place: AC (6D) — raised $1186 and won the tablet
3rd place: DK (2L) — raised $1180 and won the AFL tickets
4th place: NV (1GC) — raised $1080 and won the bike and helmet
