Overdue and missing library books.

While we value the fact that our students are dedicated, eager , library book borrowers , we do have an issue with overdue and missing books. Our school generously provides us with a budget to purchase books for our library and we love buying bright, shiny new books for our students to enjoy!   However, with so many overdue and missing books, we do need to make some hard decisions when it comes to purchasing new books.  It is not unusual for us to have a few hundred overdue books each week and at an average of $15 per book (conservatively) …… it adds up to a lot of money to replace them.

Overdue notices are sent to all families via email.  The cost of replacing the books is shown on the overdue notice and can be paid at the office.

Please support your children as they develop responsible book borrowing and returning habits:

  • Remind them of their library day.
  • Make sure they are prepared for their library session the night before, putting their books for returning into their library/school bags.
  • Talk with them about the books they have borrowed – show an interest in their choices.
  • Ensure they have a special place where they keep their library books at home.
  • Library books are to be left at home – not go to parties, friends’  houses or on airplanes.
  • Remind them they can re-borrow/extend  the  return date if they need their books  for longer.
  • If your child is having trouble finding their books, check with either Jane or Denise.
