Fortnight reflections

Wow! Week 5 has passed and to think next week is the beginning of March is quite frightening. It has been another very positive fortnight in our classrooms with lots of great learning occurring and new connections forming. Our students and teachers have hit the ground running with the State's new reading approach and, although only early days, we are very pleased with progress to date and are excited by the prospects of enhanced learning growth.

Thank you to the parents who joined us for our 2025 Unit Information Sessions last Wednesday week after school. This session was originally suggested in our parent forum a couple of years ago, and while attendance was lower than last year, those who came found it valuable in understanding how our classrooms will operate this year and the expectations of our staff. We encourage all families to stay connected by keeping an eye on the newsletter for upcoming events throughout the term and year.

Looking forward, we have our one week swimming program next week (Week 6).

Learning timetables will look a little bit different due to swimming but we ensure that students will get access to specialist classes and their core learning as best as possible (see t/table below). Having swimming condensed to one week minimises the level of disruption that a two week program can create.  Non-swimmers will be supervised at school.

A very big thank you to Mr James for his organisation of this event.

Junior School Council 2025

Congratulations to the following students listed below who will be our Junior School Representatives for 2025.

We again are having an increased focus on student leadership across all year levels at Ceres. We value all student voices and cannot wait to see and hear about the wonderful achievements of our 2025 JSC group. Mr Murrell will lead this initiative once more and he already has grand plans.

Badges will be presented to our Semester 1 JSC reps today at assembly with Semester 2 reps receiving theirs at an early Term 3 assembly.

All the best to our nominated students. We know you will do a wonderful job.

NAPLAN Assessments

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a point in time assessment of literacy and numeracy skills that will be held in March for this year for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. NAPLAN tests assess student knowledge and skills in Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. The results of the tests provide information for students, parents, teachers, and principals and can be used to improve student achievement.

The assessments this year will be held in weeks 7 and 8, Wed 12th to Mon 24th, with catch up days available within this period.

We wish our Gr 3 and Gr 5 students all the very best.

Foundation 2026 Enrolments and Tours

Enrolment and tour enquiries for 2026 Foundation students have begun and there has been some pleasing early interest.

If you have a sibling of a current student needing enrolment next year then we ask that you notify the office earlier rather than later to give us a clear indication of potential numbers.

If you know anyone looking to enroll at Ceres then feel free to ask them to book a tour (individual or group tours available) or pick up an expression of interest pack from the office.

Push Mower

We are looking to dispose of our push mower which is available for a donation to the school. Please contact the office if interested.
