Reflection

Today, on the 15th of August, the feast of the Assumption is celebrated by millions of people around the world. The feast of the Assumption is a significant event in the Christian calendar, marking the day when it is believed that the Virgin Mary was taken up, body and soul, into heaven at the end of her earthly life.

For Christians, the feast of the Assumption holds deep spiritual and theological significance. It is a celebration of the belief that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was granted a special place in heaven due to her unique role in the story of salvation. The feast is an opportunity for believers to honour Mary and reflect on her life, devotion, and significance within the Christian faith.

The feast of the Assumption is more than just a religious observance; it also holds cultural and communal significance. In many places, the day is marked by gatherings, parades, and other public events that bring people together to celebrate and honor Mary's Assumption. These celebrations often include music, food, and other festivities that provide an opportunity for communities to come together in joy and fellowship.

Prayer

Hail Mary full of grace,

the Lord is with you!

Blessed are you among women,

and blessed is the fruit

of your womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

pray for us sinners,

now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.
