Huge congratulations to our fantastic Class of 2024! It was great to welcome many students back on Thursday 12 December for a celebratory morning tea - read about that later in this newsletter. As a school that was awarding the VCE Vocational Major for the first time, it was wonderful to have a number of VCE VM students join in the festivities. Excepting the very small cohorts of students in the years 2017-2019, these were the best ever results in the history of Coburg High School and Coburg Senior High School, dating back to 2007. This reflects the very hard work of this talented group of students, supported by our wonderful staff and families.
Coburg High School has long been renowned for its excellent music program and Friday 29 November saw another beautiful evening of music on our deck to end the year. Well done to all our performers and thanks to our classroom and instrumental music staff who are first rate and support our students so well. Big thanks to Luke McIvor, Anna Berlingeri and Scott White for overseeing everything on stage. This event would not be possible without the support of the CHS Parents' Association - thank you to everyone who volunteered and made for a great night of music and food!
On Tuesday 10 December we welcomed around 240 Year 7 students for our Transition Day. Students got to meet their new class mates and many new staff members as well as taking part in getting to know you activities. Our new students were entertained by our talented Year 9 Music students who performed some of their original songs.
Welcome to the Coburg High School community to Year 7 2025 students and their families. The first day for 2025 for Year 7 (and VCE students) is Wednesday 28 January 2025. We look forward to welcoming Year 7 students and families to our Welcome BBQ on Tuesday 4 February 2025 at 5.30pm-7.00pm.
Over the past month all Year 7-11 students participated in end-of-semester assemblies - see here for a more detailed report along with lots of photos. These assemblies occured alongside students' Step Up classes helping them to get ready for 2025. The highlight was the assembly held at the Coburg Town Hall on Monday December 9, where students were awarded by local representatives in front of parents and carers.
With such a big school and so many awards, we couldn't always bring all students up on stage, but students at least got to hear and see their names being recognised up on stage. I would encourage all award winners to find their names on the Semester 2 Assemblies page.
If you haven't been on site recently, you wouldn't have seen the great progress made recently getting the new Technology building 'out of the ground'. See here for a short two minute progress video:
Our builders, Monaco Hickey, are making good progress and we are very hopeful of the building being ready for the beginning of the 2026 school year.
We are very fortunate to have the Merri Creek running so close to our school, and our students and staff benefit from a long-standing relationship with the Merri Creek Management Committee (MCMC).
See here for a report from one of our staff, Fiona Taylor, about her experiences with the creek and the MCMC group, which has great benefits for our students.
The rest of this newsletter is a fantastic celebration of student achievement and community involvement, so I encourage you to have a good read.
Wishing all students and families a wonderful break, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
