Mater Education Health Courses

Mater Education have some courses available to students in Year 10, 11 or 12, who are interested in a career in healthcare. These courses are run across various weekends in 2023 at South Brisbane. 

 

High School Health Adventure is a two-day program that has been designed to create a realistic experience of 'a day in the life' of a health professional. This hands-on, immersive experience will cover basic health professional understanding of anatomy and physiology, give students hands on experience of managing patients requiring basic life support and emergency response, supporting patients and their family through medical procedures such as surgery and childbirth. High School Health Adventure Physiotherapy Experience is a one-day program that will cover basic health professional understanding with a focus on physiotherapy. Delivered on-site at Mater Education’s world-class medical simulation facility, the course is hands-on—you will get to experience and understand the impact physiotherapists make on their patients through management of trauma injuries, rehabilitation of neurological conditions such as strokes, and through respiratory physiotherapy and rehabilitation in intensive care units. High School Health Adventure Maternity Experience is a one-day program that cover basic health professional understanding with a focus on maternity care. This program is delivered on-site at Mater Education’s world class medical simulation facility. You will spend the day immersed in this fast-paced world learning about maternal and infant healthcare. Students will have access to current practicing clinicians who will be able to share their experience as a health professional. The course has been developed by Mater midwives and educators. High School Health Adventure Medical Experience is a one-day program that has been designed to create a realistic experience of 'a day in the life' of a Doctor. The utilization of simulation with manikins, skills stations, digital technology and case-based scenarios help to create this real-world learning in a unique environment for high school students. This hands on, immersive experience will cover basic health professional understanding of anatomy and physiology, give students hands on experience of managing patients requiring basic life support and emergency response, supporting patients and their family through medical procedures such as surgery. ACU School Holiday Sport Clinics

Children aged 5- 12 years are invited to attend school holiday sport clinics at the ACU Banyo campus on Tuesday 5 July and Wednesday 6 July from 8:30am – 3:30pm. The cost is $80.00 for one day or $145.00 for both days. The clinic will take a fun approach to learning movement and techniques across multiple sports, including AFL and touch football. Children will work with qualified coaches to develop sport skills and experience gameplay. No previous experience is required and children will be grouped based on their age. Discover ACU

ACU are hosting a wide range of activities on the ACU Banyo campus specifically for Year 11 and 12 students. Sessions will cover areas such as nursing, midwifery, paramedicine, sport and exercise science, speech pathology, occupational therapy, biomedical science, law criminology, business, arts and education. There will be campus tours and student panels. Discover ACU is on Wednesday 29 June from 9:00am – 1:00pm, and the event is free.
