Getting Involved

Today on assembly we congratulated students who participated in the 2022 QLD da Vinci Decathlon, presented the 1st VII Water Polo team, and enjoyed the Term 2 AIC sport wrap ups for Football, Rugby and Chess. These presentations serve as a reminder to all students that getting involved in programs and activities at the College is the best way to experience the diverse opportunities that MCA has to offer. As we heard today, so many great memories and friendships are formed when you get involved in co-curricular activities. I was particularly impressed with Archie Anderson in Year 7 who was recognised by Water Polo Captain Angus Bathe for stepping up and playing in the Firsts in the final game when a player was unwell. Archie seized the opportunity to play with the Year 12 boys, despite being much younger than the other players. This is a great example of getting involved and being a great team player. I encourage all students to think about how they might get involved with co-curricular activities for Term 3; whether that be in a team sport, Environment Group, Green Ash, academic programs, music, drama or art.  There are plenty of wonderful experiences to be had and memories to make for all students at MCA.

Ending on a Positive Note

As we approach the end of Term 2, I want to remind boys to think carefully about how they will finish the Term.  I asked the boys to think about whether they were working to the best of their ability right until the last lesson of the term?  (Are you going home every night and completing work so that you are ready for the next day?  Are you participating fully in all of your lessons and reflecting on the feedback given by your teachers?  Are you conducting yourself in a positive and polite manner when you are interacting with your teachers and your peers?)  The answer to all of these questions should be yes, and if the answers are not yes to all of these questions, then how can our boys remedy this?

Walkathon Fundraising

Our current tally for the walkathon fundraising is $68.500.00!  Thank you so much to all of you who contributed or who helped your sons organise friends and families to also contribute.  I am sure that the P&F will be looking very hard at how they will make best use of this money.

My congratulations to Robbie Power who won the opportunity to shave the head of our College Captain, Ethen Tsiamalili tomorrow in Break 2.  Robbie – I will say again here – should you want someone else to help out, or provide ideas, I am here to help!!  Thanks also go to Ethen for the courage to put his hair forward to help inspire the boys to raise as much money as possible.

Hoodies, Senior Jerseys and Blazers

The final point shared with the boys today was that the wearing of the MCA hoodie is not for school days, and the same goes for the Year 12 senior jersey.  The only exception to this rule will be for our secondary athletics carnival on Friday.  Boys will be permitted to wear their sports uniforms to and from school, and they are also permitted to wear the MCA hoodie and senior jersey on Friday.  If they choose to wear these items at other times, they will be confiscated.

Having said this, I also commended our senior boys in Years 11 and 12 who are doing a stellar job of ensuring they have their blazers on when coming to and from school each day. Please help us by continuing to encourage this.  In Term 3, the boys will continue to wear their blazers, but this year we will be watching the weather and should it start to get hot towards the end of the term, we will look into making the wearing of the blazer for the rest of the term optional from a set date.  Thanks to our senior boys who put this idea forward for consideration in a mature and positive manner.

I wish all of the boys all the best for the remainder of the term.
