Principal's report

Dear Parents, Carers and Students of MPWPS,

Congratulations to our Cross Country team who competed last Friday at the District Cross Country Carnival at Aberfeldie Park.  The track for the run presented some challenging gradients but our students managed the challenge and gave their best.  Several of the children will be going onto the next round which is terrific. Well done to all who competed on the day.

School Council Sub-Committees

All members of our community are invited to become part of our School Council through the Council’s Sub-Committee structure.  The Council has the following structure:

  • Education
  • Resources (Financial and Facilities)
  • Environment
  • Community Partnerships (new for 2019)

The Sub-Committees meet each month in the weeks before the Council meeting.  The sub-committees are the ‘legs’ of the Council completing all the work necessary to recommend a course of action to the Council.  The sub-committees recommend to Council only. For example the Fundraising Committee connects to the Resources Sub-Committee, forming a fundraising calendar of events and reporting through profit and loss statements regularly.  In the School Council section of our Newsletter there is an EOI form for you to indicate your interest.  Come on get involved with the workings of your school.

Election Day Stall

A BIG thank you to all families who contributed to the success of the Election Day Sausage Sizzle and Cake Stall.  The amount of homemade delicacies was again very impressive.  Coming from the country I have tasted some delicious hedgehog in my time but my purchase on Saturday takes the prize! Well done to all the parents who committed to a time to assist either serving or cooking and to the children who were very helpful taking the chance to assist. Did you know we sold 70 kilos of sausages, used three bottles of gas and had to purchase more sauce and additional loaves of bread!  The democratic sausage was very popular! A great day!

Special thanks to the small but dedicated Fundraising Team of Danielle McNamara, Rachel Toussaint, Sophie Atchison and Jackie Parry for the organisation of the BBQ.  Another outstanding effort.

Footnote:  I believe it is Jackie Parry’s final sausage sizzle at MPWPS.

Classroom Helpers Program

We are planning to run a short information session for parents who are helping in the classrooms.  The program will outline the Child Safe and literacy support strategies of this role.  Classroom helpers form an integral role in classrooms and we encourage your participation in any way.  Can’t come in to the classroom but want to assist; no problem maybe you can assist at home in some way.  Just ask your class teacher they will guide you.  Barb Springfield will be running the Classroom Helpers session.  The session will be held on the 11th of June, time to be  confirmed.  Hope you can make it!

Parent Representative System at MPWPS

A small but dedicated group attended our first meeting last Monday.  Known fondly as the Parent Rep program these designated parents form a vital link between the school and the home.  There are still some classes without this designated person or persons.  If you are interested in this role please speak with or contact your class teacher.   The next meeting of the Parent Reps will be Monday June 17th at 9.30 straight after assembly.  We meet in the Staff Conference area. Let’s see if we can get all classes covered.

Lorraine Wilson Celebration

On Thursday of this week we are holding a special function for Lorraine Wilson.  Lorraine is a published author (City Kids, Country Kids) and shared her literacy knowledge to teachers and students working as a consultant here at MPWPS for almost two decades.  Lorraine also held the same role at Deer Park North PS at this time.  We are extremely lucky as Lorraine has donated her professional library to our school and we are very appreciative of this gesture.  Our celebration on Thursday will recognise Lorraine’s legacy at MPWPS, and provide an opportunity for us to collectively wish her good luck and health for the next stage of her retirement.

Sibling Enrolments

A reminder to all families that sibling enrolment forms for students commencing in 2020 are  available from the Office.
