Mr Hyatt

Message from Mr Hyatt

Hi Everyone. I hope all of you had a great Father's Day and had the opportunity to spend this day with your family. I know a number of families at St Patrick's would have been involved with various sporting events on Father's Day and all of our lives are very hectic with all of the commitments that we have. But Father's Day gives us the opportunity to spend time with loved ones and these moments are priceless. This what Father's Day is all about and I do hope you spoiled your father in some way.

Hasn't it been a hectic time since the last edition of the school newsletter was published? We had a hugely successful Father's Day Breakfast, Grandparents Day, Book Week Fair as well as the Fashion Parade. Also the students went to Walcha Central today to take part in their NAIDOC Celebrations. It looks like this trend will continue next week with the Year 5-6 students travelling to Canberra for their major excursion. I know they are really going to enjoy themselves as they are going to take in a lot of new experiences on what Canberra has to offer.

Over the last five weeks, we have been very lucky having Mrs Kelly Makeham working with the Year 1-2 students as well as Mrs Hoy, Mrs Flanagan and Mrs Healey for her teaching practicum. From what I have seen and heard, Mrs Makeham has done an outstanding job and even though, she has been here for a short amount of time, Kelly will be definitely missed by all of our learning community members. Kelly, on behalf of everyone associated with St Patrick's, I wish you all of the best with your study as well as your future teaching endeavours. We may even see you sometime next year when you have completed your degree, working in some capacity at St Patrick's Primary.

Well that's enough from me and I better start packing my bags for an early start on Monday. Take care and I will see you all soon.

I also nearly forgotten to mention this. I know the students wore their sports uniform today as they participated at NAIDOC Week celebrations at Walcha Central School. They will still need to wear sports uniform tomorrow.

Grandparents Day, Book Fair and Book Week Fashion Parade

Thank you to all of our parents, grandparents, supporters, students and staff members for making our annual Father's Day Breakfast, Grandparents Day and Book Week Activities a huge success! It was fantastic to see nearly everyone in our wider school community take part. The students and staff members should be very proud of themselves with the ideas and originality of their costume designs and I have to admit that I found it very difficult judging the winners of each learning stage group with their costumes. I could have handed out a lot more prizes. Again, well done to everyone, and thank you once again for coming out and supporting us on the day.

Walcha Central School NAIDOC Week Celebrations

Today the students went to Walcha Central School for their NAIDOC Week Celebrations where they took part in various art activities, sporting challenges as well as having a barbecue lunch. The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and a big thank you goes out to everyone at Walcha Central School for inviting us to join them today.

Year 5-6 Canberra Excursion

It is only a few more sleeps before most of the students in Year 5-6, Mrs Davey, various students and staff from St Joseph's Primary, Uralla as well as myself will be heading off to Canberra. Looking at the itinerary, it is definitely going to be an action packed week. Some of the activities that we will be taking part in include: visiting the Australian War Memorial, exploring the history of our currency system and how coins are made at the Australian Mint, testing our sporting skills at the Australian Institute of Sport, visiting Parliament House and that is only just the tip of the iceberg.

Parents and students are reminded that they need to be at St Patrick's by 6.10am at the latest on Monday morning. It is recommended that all members of our touring party have a rapid antigen test on the evening or the morning before we depart. Unfortunately some members of our Year 5-6 cohort have tested positive to COVID earlier this week. If your child is displaying COVID and/or flu like symptoms in the days leading up to our departure, please consider that they may have to miss out on taking part in the excursion. We need to think of the safety of all of our attendees and even though the school has developed a COVID Safety Plan and will be providing protective masks and sanitiser, there is a chance that someone in our party could get infected with COVID and this will place the excursion under risk as well as some of our parents making to make the big commitment of collecting their children from Canberra.

Students are reminded that they need to give Mr Hyatt a signed copy of their Personal Health Declaration Form. Paper copies of these were handed out to the Year 5-6 students this afternoon. If you misplace this form, you can click on the Personal COVID Health Declaration Form attachment below. Additional paper copies will be available on the morning that we depart. Students will also need to hand their spending money to myself as well as any medications that they need on our journey.

All information, (itineraries, what to pack, etc) are included in the links below.

Look out Canberra, here we come!
