Reflection

On the 5th of September in 1997, Mother Teresa died in India. She was a holy woman who lived out her solemn promise to give "wholehearted and free service to the poorest of the poor." She is now known as St Teresa of Calcutta. The thousands of men and women who join in her work are called the Missionaries of Charity. They serve the sick and the dying who have no one else to care for them, bringing God's love to forgotten corners of crowded cities.

Also today the Church celebrates the birth of Mary, the mother of Jesus. She is also the mother of all who follow Jesus, so we call her our Blessed Mother. People of every nation and language honour Mary. They have given her many titles of respect.

Prayer

Hail, Mary, full of grace,

the Lord is with you!

Blessed are you among women,

and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

pray for us sinners

now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Catherine McAuley- She always remembered that if there were ten thousand rules to be observed, the greatest of these is charity.

Catherine’s spirituality was centred on the mercy of God…prayer in action…action in prayer.
